I finally ran my 3 speed tonight. It is being ran on the following truck:
Fresh Savage RTR w/ cam SS
1 Gallon old SH 28 on 30% Nitro
New 4.6 diffs with 3000 weight in rear
4.6 Dual Disk Breaks
Cold Glow plug - HPI H5
Proline Mulchers
4.6 polished pipe
17/47 gearing
First impression.
1) Torque. Wow. Pulling front end up with slower pull of trigger vs fast blip. Engine wasn't warm and it was already flipping.
2) Top speed. Real nice. Noticable increase.
3) Engine temps - lower as HPI claimed. In fact, I tuned the engine richer to stop the wheelies - which caused it to become cooler yet.
4) Gear changing.. Well, very impressed. I had a feeling 3 gears would be too "busy" for racing. Well, it's all smooth and seamless.
Future. I may go up to a 18 tooth CB to stop the wheelies and transfer that power to the top end. I think this gearing may be the "sweet spot." I will report some more later. So far, there's nothing I don't like about this upgrade.
