hi there. I just smoked a couple of gears inside the tranny in my stock t maxx 3.3. Is this a common failure? I replaced them with the stock ones, is there an upgrade gear set that I should be looking for?
Another question, what is the proper setting fot the slipper clutch? I have it about a 1/4-1/2 turn out from tight, do you think this has something to do with cooking the gears?
Thanks in advance

I still have reverse, and really dont want to give it up. Its tough to explain but the gears that went were the first two in the tranny starting on the input shaft (black) and the one it drives (white) that is the smallest of the three. p/n's 5395 and 5396
Is the reverse the weak point that caused this failure??

Thanks, If it fails again i guess ill have to go with the forward only set-up.

Shaft flex is what usually causes stripped gears. No one that I know of makes heavier shafts for the Maxx tranny anymore.

I thought the 3.3 tranny was the same tranny as used in the Revos. Weren't they supposed to be stronger?

The revo tranny is pretty tough, but only after installing the FOC. I think I've had that truck for two years now... maybe 3, and I've only had the trans open twice. Once, a month after owning it to install an FOC (after tearing up reverse) and once last winter right after I installed a BB conversion. I burned up one of the two speed gears. Otherwise, it's been a brute. The entire drive train has for that matter.

Robinson racing, makes steel tranny gears I belive. But I wouldnt get them, because they might put to much stress on you diffs. How long have you had the truck, if its been like 6 months and some good bashing and stuff then just think about it as you got your moneys worth.

The truck is about a year old. I replaced the gears and everything is fine. Ill stick with the stock plastic gears. Not a big deal at the end of the day if I have to replace them again next year. Thanks for all the input guys!!

i had the same gears go i am waiting on a new slipper shaft to come in the mail
