yeah i made sure mine were tight i would recommend.

Not had any issues with diff gear mesh, its actually doing just as good as bran new. I check it from time time and so far I've had no problems... I think all the issues that users are posting on here about the un thread lock screws .. and diff's need shimming are all from older savage model experiences. because when i got my truck out of the box everything was perfect ..

So far I'm a gallon in and still havent had one issue so well see how the second gallon treats the truck.

Barely past break-in.

Do u have any running vids.. There arent many vids of the new 2011 savy

Barely past break-in.

doesn't take a whole gal to do break in... 6 tanks MAX and your done. If your going through a whole gal to do break in thats a huge waste of money.. I think the break in procedure for this truck took me about a quart or so.. i personally just did 5 tanks...

At any rate, the truck is running good no issues and I'm confident in saying that it will continue to run fine through the next gal.

I personally think the 2011 models hpi took care of the issues lots of consumers were complaining about. I know if i owned an RC company i would tend to any issues people complain about and especially for the diffs. I'm not sure how many gallons in every one elses diffs apparently go out. but i think the 2011 is sort of the best savage yet. every thing is done right so th consumer doesn't have to worry about anything but driving.

I'm going to try to maybe get some running video tomorrow or even today.. its just its sooooooo windy right now and its annoying cuz it literally is to the point where if you dont expect it you will be blown to the ground.. so I'm going to wait for it to calm down. I'm going to try to get some on board running and just some 3rd person views.

yeah i hear ya man.. i like the 2011 alot.. and after watching those 3 vids of urs the other day, i had to buy one.. it just sucks that the holiday is here and its taking a few days longer to get here lol..

What hes saying is, at 1 gallon the engine isnt making full power. The diffs need to b shimmed its too easy on the new trucks not to. I blew 2 fronts back to back right at about yhe gallon mark.

That's exactly what I was getting at.

1 gallon the engine is still fresh, your not making full power and have not ran the truck enough to say anything really. Check your Pinch Bro, at 1 Gallon you better have a hell-of-a-lot of pinch left or your trucks engine wont last ;) I know you got pinch As I got the same Truck right here on 3 gallons and still has a tight pinch after me and my Buddy beat the crap out of it.

No you don't HAVE to shim your diffs, if you don't its not guaranteed your going to have a diff failure. However, if your Bashing and Jumping the truck (It is a Savage) then you most likely will fubar your diffs if you don't shim them up right. Its also a good idea anyways so you can FILL them with diff fluid as from factory they are pretty dry & The longer the session the more likely a break will occur as they keep getting hotter.

So the benefits are Proper meshed pinion and ring gear, more likely to keep its mesh under extreme load. A cooler running diff, and Tuned through diff fluid wt.... No down side, Its even not to much of a pain to get the diffs out.

Good info. I dont really jump my truck much. Not because i am afraid to break it but because where i run (my yard) its mostly flat land and i just fly across my yard and stuff. So I'm guessing my diffs might last me long time. But I'm def gonna shim them before i run it. Gonna be a while before i run it anyways.

I bought a set of panther mt paddles for my emaxx brushless but i sold it would it be ok to run these on my savy or will it be hard on my motor? And what would be a good suggestion as far as running it in the snow goes?. Will the reciever be ok in that box or shouldni wrap it in something to keep it dry?

I personally dont really think the engine will perform any better than it is right now. All over my past nitro trucks have never increased power after a gallon. Everything seems to be performing at top level so i think its as good as its gonna get.

I actually never do pinch tests idk why but never really shut my trucks off that way.

Also like i stated above, i believe HPI has taken care of the whole shimming issues aswell as other issues that people would complain to them about. And also last night after all this talk about needing to shim gears and the right gear mesh i check my diffs last night and the mesh is like perfect right now... not to tight but has that small amount of a tick between them. And honestly thats good enough for me to trust that my mesh is right. I can imagine listening to users on here that always say shim your diffs.. and end up with a mesh thats too tight and cause even more damage.

In the end everything is running properly, i dont agree the engine is going to get more powerfull in the next gal. I've personally owned 4 nitro vehicles in my past and lots of engine rebuilds over the years and not once seen my truck gain more performance on the second gallon. I just notice an even constant hp range through out gallons no better no worse. that is untill you get up there in the 4's 5's thats my personal rebuild mark.

So with that said i will agree that it is possible ill damage gears from jumping considering i jump this thing really high and land usually messed up, but it wouldnt be because of my mesh it would be purely because of impact knocking something out of place.

i broke the diffs slamming on the brakes... not jumping, thats piss poor shimming and on the diffs there should be minimal play, imo not enough to feel. the diffs would still work but when id hit the brakes you could hear the teeth jumping.

Yes you may have a truck that was built correctly but if you search for it on here, its a huge issue and not the norm

All i gotta say is I've had over 6 savages lol and every one of them was known for breaking diffs. I hated them for longest time, but when they came out with the 2011 i thought id give it a shot.. Hope its for the best

well assuming my truck would be here friday, i went to send a few packages out today and checked my mail and this is what i got..

It's going to mess with your mind, seeing it every day, not able to drive it, and theres nothing you can do about it! :hehe: She looks nice, same color body I got.

Ya i was so bummed lol i wanted the red one but my gf thinks its sweet haha. I can't wait to try it tho

I personally love the yellow/pink body not many people get it for some reason. i love the look of the truck. but yeah looking good man its gonna be intense !!

Ya man it def looks like a fun truck. I installed my flysky gt3b in instead of the radio that came with it and i put the wheelie bar on as well as the included engine guard. Just waiting for some nice weather. Should have some vids up sooner or later lol. Any advice for winter running? Or winter break in?
