I have an hpi rs4 3 and i've always bought hpi bodies for it, I saw that proline started making my favorite car, the cadillac ctsv, so of coures i buy a 200 mm one. So i'm all excited, and i decide to drill the body post holes first because protoform bodies don't have the dimples like hpi's bodies do. well i put the bodie over my chassis and i find that the wheelbase is totaly different, what gives, are 200 mm bodies not all standard? Are all of prolines and protoforms bodies the same wheelbase? Because they also make the new c6 corvette, and i was wondering if that will fit my car?
 
it should fit. your saying that in no mater whihc and what configuration that you place the body the wheels dont align on the body? also are you sure its a 1/10 scale body?
 
Yes, I've tried moving it all around. If i line up the front wheel with the front wheelwell then the rear wheel is about 3/4 on an inch forward of being on center in the back. I'm pretty sure it's a 1/10 scale body, aren't all 200 mm bodys 1/10 scale? This is the first time i've ever bought a proline body, i've always used hpi's. I'll see if i can get a picture showing it.

ok, here i took a picture, now it might be hard to see but the front wheel is centered with the wheel well, and you can see how much the back one is off.

Sorry i forgot to ask this. When they say 200 mm, they mean the width of the body right? The reason i ask is because i know on hpi's SUPER nitros they have 300mm and 280mm bodys but those numbers ARE referring to the wheelbase and not the width. So does 200mm and 190mm refer to the wheelbase or the width? Does prolines and hpi's 200mm mean the same thing?
 
ooo i see. i dont know what the hell it is.hpi and protoform should be the same.the 200mm refers to the width. gee thats a puzzle with no answer
 
Unfortunately, not all body manufacturers will fit all 200 mm touringcars. For example, the same exact body that fits on my Serpent 710 will not fit my NTC3 or Fusion21. You already cut the body so I guess you're now stuck with it. BTW, I also use the CTS-VR body on my Serpent and it won't fit my NTC3 correctly.

When I buy a body for anyone of my touring cars, I pop it on the car and check before cutting or reaming any body mount holes.

What I like to buy are cars that have no lines or reference marks for the rear so I can cut my own holes with the template that is provided. Protoform makes bodies with this option as well. What is important is that you have steering clearance. If anything, what I did on one of my cars when I had that problem was to make a wide gradual arch just to make more appealing to the eye.
 
Actually I have'nt cut it out yet, i usually cut it out after i'm done painting it. I was thinking of takeing it back, but i might just paint it and put it on ebay. Thats a bummer, i always thought they were all a standard size, oh well at least i'll get some practice painting. thanks for the replys guys.
 
Odd, the 200mm HPI NSX body i got for my 4-tec doesn't fit either. The rear body post's are too high and it doesn't look right...

Actually you should be able to adjust your body posts to raise or lower the body, although i'm not sure if the 4-tec has adjustable body posts, the only other problem you might have is the nsx is kind of a low body so you might have to cut out a section for the heat sink. But if the wheelbase matches your car it should fit just fine.
 
My MTX-3 is actually 199mm same for some other cars. So the Stratus body I used was a little off in the front and rear. So not all bodies will fit all cars. So like Diver said, measure it up first before cutting anything.
 
Well I see that you have failed to reconize the oldest rule in the book, Measure twice cut once. Never assume that all 200mm or 190mm bodies are exact. A hard learned lesson but one that I guarentee you will never repeat.
 
I have noticed that the front wheel well arches on Protoform bodies is unusually smaller than any wheel/tire that would fit on the car. Any Protoform body I have purchased has been like this. I actually have to cut the front wheel well considerably larger than what is scribed on the body. HPI bodies seem to really be on the mark and fit pretty well right out of the box. HPI also marks the centers of their wheel wells so you can use a circle cutter to get a nice round wheel cut out. I have not been really thrilled with Protoform bodies lately and I'm planning to go back to HPI's. I have always had much better luck with HPI bodies.
 
Put a little grease on top of the posts then lay your body on it .Grease marks the spot
