well this k46 is no joke. got it tuned in quite fine. going so fast that the front wheel was woobling off the rim and their glued on. i had the spur gear tight and then back off a 1/4 turn. mesh was good and loose, but after tuning and top and bottom punch was excellent i was ready to bash my homemade jumps. well i ate about 5-6 teeth off the 47t. i then fixed it with the 49t i had and again hit some jumps, bumps, just straight bashing but not real hard. well it stripped all the teeth off the 49t. i mean there isn't a tooth left on it.

I'm thinking about going to the steel spur. what are the advantages/disadvantages of steel spur?
there are a couple i am looking at right now is the robinson brand which comes with a 48t spur and a 16t clutch bell for about $30

and then there is the golden horizon aluminum with steel teeth $25

I'm wondering which one i should get cause I'm not sure and want to be sure the first time so I'm asking me helpful freinds over here.

with the robinson it would be the same set-up as the k46 which is 47t spur and a 17t clutch bell.

it looks like a spur gear stripping day. boy they know how tom make money by using plastic were something harder should be.

I had the same problem and went through the Golden Horizons type gear as well. it turns out that the brake was dragging too much. I adjusted the brake to not drag and I have not stripped a spur gear since, Metal or Plastic.

i have been having trouble with the brakes and this linkage. man i can't wait for the parts to get here from towers. going the ofna linkage route.

I only run a plastic spur gear. It's good to have a 'weak link' in there that's cheap and easy to replace. If the spur doesn't strip, a CB or a tranny gear will.

I recommend getting the New HPI CAM type steerimg if you don't have it. The Cam type is more superior than the Ofna IMO.Works awesome for my Savage. Is your slipper on too tight? How about your bearings?

everything is fine. i had some problems with the brakes and i heard that it may be the culprit

i have the servo saver cam stuff that came with the k46 kit, but it doesn't help me with the throttle linkage.

where can i get one of those steel spur gears?
need some good clutch shoes aswell because i striped my spur gear and went to pull away and i thing the heat from the clutch bell rubbing on the spur gear melted them a bit.

I had a spur gear striping problem when I got my savage. (2 stock gears and one steel gear) It turned out that the motor mount plate was a little bent. It was barley enough to notice. I removed it and clamped it in a vice and straitened it out. Then checked it with a straight edge. I have never had a spur gear problem again. Over 2 gallons so far and I beat the hell out of my truck.
