i am thinkin of gettin the two speed module for my sportmaxx i only bash my truck no races ever so i am wanderin if this would be a worthwhile hop up my friend has a tmaxx (2 speed) and even though i dont have 2 speed i still keep up with him he can't get me of his bumper so just wanted some info on wether to do this or not and is it an easy job

Thanks

You could buy the T-maxx tranny for about 70-80$ then I belive it would be a direct swap. Just drop it in. Then if you ever wanted to go to 4wheel drive it would be an easy convert.

If you are looking to convert your one-speed transmission I cannot see how it would be that difficult. I Have been in the T-maxx tranny a few times, There really isn't much to it. Just make sure you take pictures or have a good memory. Traxxas has complete diagrams.

I think the reason you can keep up is because you don't have to turn the front axles, and drive line. You also don't have to turn the front tires. A 2 speed would only make that better IMHO

I think lykan is right about the reason why you keep up. You currently have less rotational mass dragging you down. Add a two speed and you will be faster off the line and faster on the top side than a 4wd t-maxx with a two speed. Just because there is less weighing the inertia of the engine down.

Although, with the extra power from first gear, you will probably break loose in the rear a lot unless you get some soft tires and soft springs to absorb some of the shock.

Tower has the two-speed mod for $30. But ID' take the advice and get the whole T-maxx tranny unless you never want to make it a four-wheeler.

Olds is right. With all that power down low in 1st gear your going to be sliing around like nuts.. could be a goood thing.

WHen I blew out the front diff, my 4wd mxx was wild in the rear.. rreally ooose, easy to spin.

i think I'm gonna stick with 2wheel drive it makes drivin that bit more exciting always fighting through corners. So when i put the 2 speed in it (if i read ur post correctly) i will have faster accelleration than i have got now is this correct i know it should put 10+mph on the top end

Correct You will have a lower (more torquey) start, and you will have a higher geared (more top speed) on the high end.

You will also have the great benfiet of not having all those axles/tires/diff gears/bearings turingin in the four wheel drive.

Right now with the two speed in my T-maxx It launches hard and fast. Just as it is about to run out of power (rapped out) it shifts right into the power band of second shooting me way up in top speed.
You will have a lower low end, and a higher top end for sure.
