I just finished my SS build. I have finished the breakin and now how does the two speed trany work? It hasn't shifted yet. Do I have to adjust anything or am I not going fast enough????:stupid:

Ummm well the two speed is pre set from the factory. If I remember right even though the SS is a kit it still has the tranny build already for you. I have been having this problem myself. From what I have been told you want to set the screw with an allen wrench tighten it all the way down and than you want to take it 4 90 degree turns out and that is supposed to be good. It seemed to work alright for me like that. Maybe you haven't tuned it right just yet.

I have'nt even tried to tune the trany. I don't even know where to start.

Do you have the engine broken in yet? If not, break the engine in fully and set the high/low needles in the carb for normal running. Once this has been done, then you could worry about the 2 speed not 2 speeding!

Maybe its not shifting cus the engine not tuned properly. When it is take a look at this.

It usually takes like 8 or 9 tanks till it will shift into 2nd. I would continue to tune it; you could still be running a little too rich. I know for my .21, it didn't shift until about the 7th tank.

What does the amount of fuel run through the motor have to do with shifting? I was under the impression that the shift was based on RPM and/or road speed.

What he is getting at is that if your motor is not tuned properly than it is very likely that you are not able to acheive the proper rotation to make it happen. Yes your engine will need to be tuned properly to make it happen. For instance if you have not retuned from factory settings than you are running very rich still and chances are you will not be able to acheive the proper speed to get it to shift into second from running too rich.

DO NOT TOUCH YOUR 2-speed AT ALL.. if you a newbie!!!!
It is already set to factory settings...

just like what everyone said, you need to tune your engine first.. when it starts to shift then you can adjust your 2-speed if you want

if you mess with it without tuning your engine... you are going give youself a hard time...

The reason fuel through the mill is important, or should I say, breaking in your engine FULLY is important, is that the RPM's needed to achieve shifting into second, are not properly reached until your engine is fully broken in.

Sorry for the run-on sentence, but that should clear things up.

no I havn't adjusted the carb yet it's still on the factory settings, running very rich. Iwill run it a bit longer like this and then lean it out and try to see if it will shift. It seams like it has plenty of power at this rich setting though.

You will still need to hit high enough RPM's to get it to shift. Adjusting the High Speed needle will help that along.

Shifting isn't directly related to power per say. Like other have said, myself included, shifting is directly ralated to the RPM's that your engine is capable of. I just put a new 21 in my maxx without changing anything in the trans for shift point. It took about 1 quart to get the engine to the point to where it would wrap out enough to shift. Granted, it had way more power than the engine I took out, even though it was giving me wheelies during breakin, I didn't see the RPM's to shift until about tank 15.

I'll be starting gallon 2 the next time I go out, and now it runs perfect. I almost might change my shift point to be a little later, but I'm sure your application is different. Just give it some time, go through the motions of break-in. You will get it to shift at some point, just don't rush things. You should run rich for quite a few tanks for break in purposes to get good power and life out of your new engine.

thanks for all the help guys. I an going to run it tonight with a budy who has a t-max (oldSchool max) should be fun.

Be patient and your reward will be great.
I thought mine would never change but after 7 tanks on grass in the back yard I went to a dirt track, I still remember the first time it changed into second oooooooooooooooooh yeah baby. Since that moment she's never looked back!
I didn't touch a thing on the two speed, it was just a matter of engine break in and tune!
