I have a 2.5 that will not shift. I have tried a few things that i have read on here but still no. I read that someone posted that it is usually beacause the engine is not tuned proper. I am getting perfect temp and lots of power and rpm I just can't get a shift so I must let off. I tore it apart and looking at everything in the tranny it looks fine nothing broke or slipping. I am wondering what the screw does when you adjust to make it shift sooner or later. Should I see something move .I hold it in my hand and move the screw but dont see anything different except the screw moving

The screw pushes against a ball bearing that is pressing on a spring that applies tension to the shifting pawl. When you tighten/loosen the springs, this adjust the pressure on the pawl allowing it to shift at various RPM's. When the pawl swings out, it catches on a pin inside the 2nd gear spur. Then the speed of the shaft it's on moves faster than the 1st gear set moves and the one way bearing in the 1st gear rolls vs locks.

Loosening allows it to shift lower in the RPM range. Tightening allows it to shift higher in the RPM range. Usually 1/4 turn increments are about all you want to do at a time.

First, I'd check your slipper. If it's slipping too much it won't allow the truck to get enough speed to shift. Same goes for the cluch shoes. If those check out fine, then loosen the 2nd gear screw 1/2 turn at a time until it shifts. Then adjust it accordingly.

The slipper cannot be the problem as it is tight. Thought of that first so there is no slippage there. Haven't looked at the clutch shoes. I am getting really good speed in first. My friend has the same truck and I can keep right beside him until his shifts. I tried loosing the screw by 1/2 turn unil I hit 6 full turns. It was practually out. Still would not shift.

I have a similar problem.. but mine came down to a carburator issuse.. for some reason if the linkage is adjusted too tight.. the carb was pulled open too far, thus making the engine choke out a little.. not allowing for the proper rpm's to shift. If I stay off of the throttle as much.. it will shift just fine

I think I may have found it. I tore the trans apart and the pawl or arm the come out to to grab and shift was stuck. It was really jambed in there. I have it moving freely now and when I tighten the screw it is harder to get out than when you loosen it. I am not sure why it was stuck so bad but I am hoping this does the trick

didn't work. Getting tired of this pile of crap. It is my first truck and I bought used to see if I like it. My first run the motor went and now trans issues. Isn't very much fun yet.
