The 2.5r has a blue head on it i just put a 2.5r motor on my t maxx i can't really tell a difference other then the blue head i think its basically the same motor... its a direct drop in for the regular 2.5

The only difference is that it has a newer cooler looking and performing cooling head on it.
(Atleast thats what I read)

Exactly the same engine as 2.5, just different head. This will allow the engine to run at a cooler temperature (You should be running at a proper temp with the 2.5cooling head anyways). The 3.3 is a hole new engine with the same cooling head as the 2.5R.

E... with the same cooling head as the 2.5R.

I think you meant to say "same style". The 3.3 head is larger.

The TRX2.5(R) is 2.5cc (.15ci) whereas the 3.3 is 3.3cc (.20ci). The 3.3 has more torque and hp than the 2.5 but doesn't loose much in the peak RPM's. So, anything you have with a 2.5(r) in and replace with a 3.3, you will notice a pretty decent performance bump.

but can you tell from a picture its a 2.5r, is there like any numbers?

You can not tell the difference...If someone put a blue head on an old 2.5 they could tell you it a 2.5r and you would never know the difference. As for power they are the same.
