I have a 2.5 (not an R) T-Maxx that I recently threw the 3.3 my new Revo came with (that has an O.S.18TM waitng to be broke in). Well no surprise here this 3.3 will flat smoke that lil 2.5. Transformed this truck into an animal for sure. Glad I bought the wheelie bar this truck stands on it at will. My buddy had his Revo and we played in a lil dry sump across the street from me.
This truck is very easy to predict off jumps and make midair corrections to. I was probably getting about 3-4 feet of air off an 8 foot dirtwall and sailing a good 15 feet away from it before landing. Had a couple of undesirable landings but overall I could correct in midair and land her on the rubber. We had an absolute blast both trucks ran GREAT and nothing broke so we can't ask for a btter day than that.

I would'nt doubt it the difference in power is pretty astounding on this 3.3 I'm gonna call Traxxas tomorrow and get a list of what I will need to upgrade. Any suggestions on a short list of parts I should get?

if you really want good stability you're gunna want the wide-maxx a-arms if you don't already have it and with this you will have to upgrade the drive shafts to the wheels, and the steering knuckles, and also the tie rods. it makes a bid difference. it even comes with two extra setting for the shocks to make four different positions on the a-arms them selves. one setting puts it real close to the ground for on road racing, and the highest setting gives almost 4 inches ground clearance. and then you may also want to upgrade the drive shafts from the transmission to the diffs.

on my maxx i have the o.s. .18 TM also, going into second gear it pulls wheelies even on dirt.

The 2.5 maxx had the wider arms. It was the original .15 pro maxx that was narrow.

The newer maxx's (2.5R and 3.3) have different driveline components (trans, slipper, axles, axle carriers and diffs) and a bunch of gray plastic that's supposed to be tougher, but the arms are the same I believe.

I just looked up the exploded views of the diffs on the Traxxas site. I compared the 3.3 diffs to the 2.5 (not the 2.5R) and every single component of the diffs has identical parts numbers. Now this means either the parts are now superceded to the better 3.3 internals or there is no difference between them. Has anybody actually had these diffs apart and physically seen any difference?

Not trying to hijack a thread, but this was appropriate: I have an original .15 T-Maxx that I put a new 3.3 into it. Broke it in with heat-cycling, and boy does that thing run strong! Now, I know I need to replace a few parts. Axle shafts and driveshafts first, right? Can I put stock 3.3 parts in there? What might need replacing next?

Thanks a bunch,

Bob

Give Traxxas tech support a call and ask them about driveline differences. I can tell you I spoke with a tech on the 2.5 and was told the shafts coming off the trans are the same as the 3.3 and obviously the driveshafts to the wheels are much bigger.

Didn't think of that. Sounds like a great idea!

Thanks,

Bob
