Ok i know i posted on here back in november, but now i have some extra cash from tax return and am now ready to hit the hobby shop and pick out some parts.
First off my older maxx has the .15 pro which i blew up. I would like to use the trade in program and pick up the 2.5 or 3.3. I "thought" i knew that i had to buy a conversion kit for the carb, but the last 2 guys i talked to at the hobby shop said the .15, 2.5, and 3.3 all use the same carb setup???
I also heard i would have to swap the .15 tranny to a 3.3 unit, but the guy said no i would only need stronger gears???
What do you guys think? I would like to not spend anymore than 150ish on the parts......

I'm getting ready to do the same, blew up my 2.5R the other day, and asked this same question. I was told everything should be interchangeable, and your gears should be fine to run, but they may be more apt to break with the bigger engine. But it should bolt right in, exhaust and electric start should bolt right on and work just fine, just more apt to strip gears and snap drive shafts if it is all still plastic..:)

I did the 3.3 conversion to my 2.5 and within a couple weeks had to upgrade to the 3.3 tranny and diffs and the 3.3 centershafts plus I used steel driveshafts cause I spun two sets of brand new plastic shafts and yes everything bolts right in all u have to do is notch out around the driveshafts because the 3.3 centershafts are bigger and they will rub on the chassis

The pro .15 uses a rotary carb. The 2.5/2.5r and 3.3 use a slide carb. You'll need the linkage conversion. Easy money to install an setup. I also recommend upgrading the half shafts(diffs to wheels) to 4908 T Maxx shafts. These are cheaper than metal shafts and plenty strong. You'll need 4908 carriers and turn buckles as well. I'd go with steel centers however. If your tranny has reverse, installing a forward only conversion strengthens it substantially. Another good upgrade is the Robinson Racing slipper clutch. The stocker is pretty tricky to get a good setup out of, and a proper slipper setup is the most important factor in keeping your drive train in one piece.

thanks guys....i knew the carbs were diff and needed the conversion kit, but the dude i was talking to kept telling me the .15 and 2.5 were the same engine.
Maybe i should just stick to the 2.5 and conversion kit, because i really dont have the extra $$ to dump into a tranny and i do really love having reverse on it

I have a nice 3.3 fs if you go 3.3

You'll shell the tranny fast if you keep reverse. That gets old fast when your wanting to rip. Maybe the hobby shop fellow was confused. The pro .15 and the 2.5 are both .15's, but configured differently.

ok checked at the hobby shop today and they had an os .18 for $130, so i think i'm gonna go that route. I'm hoping i can get away with leaving the trans how it is, but we will see. I also need a new tank, but i thought i heard there was a difference between the older/newer style maxxs' (isnt it just cc size?)
also on the .18os i didnt know there was a difference, so not sure if it was a crv or what....is there a difference between 0s.18's, like is one better than the other??
