2.5 doesn't like to keep running

hey, nother new guy
i have a first year t-maxx 2.5, broken in right, ran great when i first was into it, then i phased out of trucks and into planes, and now I'm trying to get this one going again. had it running, ran great for the first about 2-3 mins, then started cutting out. it idled fine, but when i got on the gas it would bog down then slowly catch up to itself and run fine till i slowed down again, and then after about a minute of that it cut out completely and wouldnt restart until it had sat for about a good hour or so.
everything drivetrain related is bone stock, still just a 1 speed with no reverse and 2wd.
planning on making it a little more... well... respectable within the r/c community, but id like it to be a little more reliable first.
any suggestions?

How long did you let it sit since you used it last? I have a feeling the carb, tank filter (if exists) and fuel lines may be gummed up throwing off your tune.

I'd tear the carb apart, clean it really well with DA and q-tips, replace the fuel lines and then try it again.
 
As long as you're at it, you may want to replace your needle o-rings and the fuel tank gasket. Don't forget to silicone the carb when you put it back on.
 
christ, been 2 years, maybe 3, but i drained the tank and ran it till dead last time... at least thats the typical thing i do on the real cars... does rc fuel leave that much of a residue?
 
I've had build up doing the same in as little as six months... Those needles and fuel inlets are really small. Unless you rinsed out the tank with DA, the stone filter (if there is one) would still gum up with the oil that's in the fuel. As would anything else.
 
went through and cleaned everything up... this 2.5 is a lot more advanced than i wouldve ever expected. can't run it tonight yet, neighbors may get a little angry, but, without a doubt, there was clogged passages...
no stone in the tank, just the little fins that keep the fuel at the fuel line...
i am curious if these engines use more fuel when they are warm? sorta the opposite of their full sized counterparts, but just wondering if its a possibility if its choking out because its just not getting enough fuel when its warmed up fully...
