The farmer down the road put this out for sale last week. I see it when my wife and I go for our morning walk. I noticed that the bed is curved, not warped but intentionally. I've been asking around if anyone knows why but with no success. I was thinking maybe it was for carrying barrels? What do you think?

It could be for carrying barrels, or something that fits exactly to that shape, or maybe for carrying things like firewood to help keep it from rolling off. That's interesting, as long as I've been into restoring classic iron, and going to look at potential hot rods in barns, hayfields, and such, I've never seen a bed like that. If I were you, I would have to go knock on the door and inquire about the truck.

George, that could be your next project. Build a regular bed that is correct for that model, put a nice lil small block in it, add an airbag suspension for the wife. And besides when the cops ask if you've got airbags, you can just hit the switches on them. (Be careful, we did that exact thing one time, and it pissed him off because we scared him so bad when the truck jumped off the ground) Anyway, put some aluminum or facory steely wheels on it, and paint it flat black with hand painted red pinstripe, maybe airbrush a period correct pinup gal in the corner of the tailgate.

Ahhh, I can feel it now as I just imagine the truck rolling by with the hooker super comp headers wide open and that big ole cam loping. Whoops, gotta go, I got way to excited and I've gotta go release some tension.

How much are they asking for it? If it's affordable and you have a place for it you need to loan the money asap, it won't really ever lose value if the price is right.

The price is $4999.99. I'm no mechanic by a LONG shot. I have no knowledge of it. I don't have a place for it. I don't even know if it runs!! And Corey is begging me to get it for his 1st truck. I'm actually thinking how sweet I could make it look, but I have no idea how.

When I was 14, I had decided exactly what year model truck I wanted and things like that. In October, I found exactly what I was looking for. It was a 68 Chevy pickup, short wheelbase with fleet side. I called my Dad and told him about the truck (he lived in Nashville, I was in LA). I told him how much I liked it and stuff like that. I went and looked at that truck in the parking lot where it was for sale, every afternoon for about a week or two. Then one day I went to look at it, and it was gone. I was heartbroken. On Christmas day, we went to get my Christmas presents out of the storage building, and when I opened the shop door, there sat my baby. I can't tell you how much I learned while rebuilding that thing, and nothing will ever replace the memories that I had with Dad while building it.

If you've followed my ugly truckling thread, you know how much I'd like to paint it for you.

That's a really great story, Charlie.

Obviously, the curved bed is an early attempt at a mobile skateboard ramp. :jester:

Damn thats one nice truck. would love more stuff like that in england. we got a few 60s 80s and 90s chevys but there not that nice.

Nope skate boards were not around, at lease in a commercial manner, until much later. Now I'm sure that many generations have been putting wheels on stuff and trying to roll around, but the skateboard as we know it didn't come around until sometime around the 70s I believe, maybe a lil earlier than that, and I think it was developed by surfers.
