Hey Guys,

I am running the Hitec HS56HB servo in my 18T. I followed AE's instructions on how to install the 56 to the T. My problem is that the screws that hold the rack in place makes contact with the servo and prevents it from turning. Also trying to get the thing centered is posing a problem. The servo is recomended by AE for the 18 so I was hoping it would work out. Does anybody have a pic or some advice on how to make this steering setup work? So far I have no steering what-so-ever! Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Tom

If I remember right you need to trim the bracket that holds the servo down..Ill try and find my 18t
I have the day off YA HOOO! Snow

Thanks for any help you can provide guys. I am not sure if it is just the design or I have done something wrong. When I go to turn right or left it seems to bind and it looks like the head of the screw actually makes contact with the side of the servo preventing the arm from moving any farther. I am not sure. I have tried everything I know to do and I can't figure it out. I am so close.... yet so far.

Tom this is what mine looks like..its all after market..But its just about the same as stock..

Hope this helps...I did find that I had to move the ball to the lower hole. And move the steering rack to the top hole.

Over all its a dumb design..IMO

Thanks Zandor for the pics... I will see if Maybe I can relocate the screws and studs to see if it raises things up a bit. Do you have any clearance problems with the center support? What servo are you using? Thanks again!

The servo is a HS-56 HBHitec

Cool... that is the same servo that I am using. I agree with you.... very poor design.... as far as the steering setup goes. The truck is pretty much bullet proof other than that. Thanks my friend.

Hey Ed,

How did your servo install go last night?

Tom

I got the HS85MG yesterday.
None of the horns that I have fit the servo. Either I lost one or it doesn't come with one large enough to fit it. I'm researching it today to see whats up.

I did rework the servo saver setup I have with the Airtronics servo. I used the aluminum insert rather then the plastic one. Like a dumb ass I had the wrong horn adaptor installed and it was slipping splines. It works better now but still does an amount of wandering. As I look at the setup, I may just fabricate a "Direct Link and bypass the servo saver completely depending on what I find.

I installed the Super Difs and CVDs. They are quite a bit heavier then the stock units but with the brushless setup I dont thing its going to hurt one bit.

I have found the same problem.... I think I may be slipping spines as well. I didn't get a chance to check last night. With the MIP super diff setup... do you get both diffs in the pack or do you have to buy two kits? Thanks

Tom

Only one diff kit per pack. Did you get the pictures I sent? The Integy part should fix the problem, it is what I use. There is another company out there making some kickbutt stuff for the 18 also. www.drivenpro.net

Some of their items work ONLY on the 18T (not B or MT), so be careful.

He is HARD to get ahold of but I have an account with him :)

My FT kit did come with the Hitec servo saver setup. Thanks for the part info though.. I think I might order one just to have in the ol pit box just in case.

My kit came with a horn that has an "H" on it but its to small.

Eddy, I found the exact same thing! Not only with my AE kit, but both my Ofna kits too! The servo horn that comes with the kit, and has the "H" stamped on it is to small by a good margin. I wonder if Hitec has changed the sizes of there servo horns?

with hitec ,there micro servos have diffrent splines. the 85\81mg have the same size spline as a standard hitech Metal gear servo.. there other micro servos use a diffrent size spline..

Eddy, try the digital KO PROPO servo. Direct fit, stronger than the Hitec, AND DIGITAL :) Last servo you will ever buy for the mini.

I just got the Ass. Hitec servo saver setup for the 18T part number 21049 and its not the proper part. Looking at it, its the same "H" parts that are included in the kit. The splines are of micro size and not the larger ones for the servo we have.

I'm going to mess around with trying to go direct mount with common parts and the least amount of moding as possible.

I started on the mod.
So Far I have about 30 minutes in it and all I need to do now is secure the servo and its done.

The 85 is a much larger servo.
I cut the mounting tabs off the servo.

Found a horn in my parts box that was the same thickness as the old servo saver horn and drilled a hole where the ball stud mounts. I then used my dremmel and ground off the additional length and width.

I needed to push the servo forward a bit to align the horn properly so I had to remove a small amount of the chassis lip on the right front corner where it starts to taper forward.

I may need to take a small amount off the back bottom corner of the DP drag link to keep it from hitting the top of the servo when the wheels are fully turned to the right. I dont know this yet but a quick look tells me to keep an eye on it.

Ill need to look for a way to hold the servo in. I prefer to make a holder but if all else fails Shoe-Goo will work fine.

I'm pressed for time right now and will post photos some time soon.
