i have a brand new .18tm, with new exhaust spark plug, fuel lines, flywheel and fuel. It has a pullstart. It is brand new and it won't start, it doesn't even sound like it wants to crank over at all. What is my problem??

spark plug= Glow Plug

anyways

you say it doesn't sound like it wants to turn over?

the engine IS brand new? Correct?!

Pretty much any new nitro engine has a VERY tight pinch on the sleeve that the piston slides up and down in. This pinch wont wear out after the first pull.

how to start your engine easier?

loose'n your glow plug up a bit, fire it up, once its running. tighten the plug down. yes its frustrating. sometimes with brand new engines, as soon as you remove the glow igniter the engine will die, and this results in your glowplug leaking fuel and making a mess. No biggy! can always clean things up.

so go ahead and try loosening your glow plug up a bit, yank on the pullstart. Now remember, short fast pulls on that pullstart.

crank that engine over and keep your fingers crossed that it fires up.

oh yes, deffinatly.

be as gentle as you can, new engines are known to destory pullstarts.

if it can fit the budget at the moment, i highly recomend either the hotbides roto start or the HPI rotostart

look for the savage 21 or 25 roto start

dont get the one for the x as it wont work.

your also going to need the HPI one way bearing, i can go look up the part number for the bearing if you need

IMO a pull start is the best thing on a new engine, electric starters can be very hard on OWB's and connecting rods. All new engines will be very tight, this is normal. Try preheating the engine with a heat gun or hair dryer, this will help loosen it up a little. If it's still too tight slightly loosen the glow plug until it starts, as soon as it starts tighten it back up. You should be able to get it started. Also make sure your plug igniter is fully charged...If it's not a rechargeable one make sure you use a new battery.

Good Luck!

Also did you prime the mill first. Just a thought.

thanks, does anybody now the stock needle settings for the .18tm?

Needle Settings:
- High Speed Needle (Needle Valve) 2-1/2 turns out from closed
- Mid Range Needle (Mixture Control Valve) Screw head is exactly
1/2 turn in from flush with the carb body (pg 22 of manual)
- Low Speed Needle (Metering Needle) Screw head flush with
ball link body (pg 22 of manual)

this is from the OS site....

It can be frustrating with a pull start......at first.....just take your time....warm it up (hair dryer or heat gun)......make sure ti is primed ..not flooded....make sure your glow plug igniter is working ...take the plug out and see that it glows while in the igniter. Then pull in quick bursts......you will get it...

i took the glow plug out and tested it, it didn't glow. so thats my problem my whole time. o well, i am going to go get a new igniter tommorow than hopefully it will work.

so i finally got it started, but when i hit the throttle it revs really high, and them dies, does anyone know what my problem is?

if its brand new you shouldnt be hitting the throttle in the first place...

You need to break it in....either Heat Cycle method (do a search here) or the method in the OS manual.

at the factory setting it should die with WOT......as Z400 said you should not be attempting that yet........BREAK IT IN FIRST.

I ment right when it started i would hit the throttle (not at full speed), i didn't just gun it. But anyways i did break it in, and ran it all day. It hauls!! I love it. After about seven tanks should you be reaching full top speed?
