my engine (HPI rs4 rtr3) .15fe will lean it self out after 3 tanks. when i ran it 1-2 tanks, the heat sink was still warm, in no way it was hot. it was warm, you can touch it for 20 second and still it wont burn your hand. at this point, i thought it was running was rich, so i thought it was ok. but then, after the 2nd tank, it will run faster, and you can hear the engine screaming higher pitch tone. when the 3rd tank nearly gone, it will turn off by it self. i dont understand this, what gives? please help...

any suggestion, comments or advice would be great. thanks

check everything.... the stock hpi engines are crap... seal will start to go doesn't hold and scews come off...

Wow, FE bashing. I happen to like my FE. Sure it's a slow engine. But mine runs like clockwork. If you find that it's starting to run hot after a few tanks, remember a few things. First, engines can run differently over time and you just have retune them now and again. Now, the first FE I got had a leaky backplate seal. But just retightening the screws took care of it and all was well. Just check to make sure all the screws are tight and the carb is tightened down. And you might want to get a cheap temp gauge just to be able to check the running temps over time.

Radio Shack is where I got mine. They have an infrared temp gauge for about $40..

It's this one .

There are also a few other hobby companies that have recently come out with infrared temp gauges for about $35. It's getting to be a real must-have in your tool box.

thanks candyman. i'm getting one of radioshack tomorrow. thanks
