Ok I just bought a factory team kit of the nitro TC3. I have come to an obstacle...The engine I am trying to put into it is a HPI 12RSS non pull start. . How do I install the clutch nut onto it? It seems that the length of the shaft prevents me from bolting the clutch nut all the way down. This also prevents me from installing anything else!!! What can I do? I want this engine to take it's first breath in this car.I also bought a three shoe flywheel and bought the xtra shoes and springs since the kit only came with 2!!PLEASE HELP ME!!!!:censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:

You're gonna have to cut the shaft on the engine. Here's how to do it:

Put the flywheel on with the collar. Then screw in the clutch nut until it stops. Don't tighten it real tight. The record that length with a pen to mark it. Then just take a few millimeters off of that length and cut it with a dremel. Then it should be to the correct length and ready to put the clutch nut and such on.

If I do cut it, what clutch nut do I use for it? Thanks Kwong!!!:OMG:

You'll be cutting the shaft on the engine to make the clutch nut fit. So you'll still be using the stock clutch nut. If you're talking about the 3 shoe setup, you should be fine.

Thanks Kwong it worked!! Now what about the three shoe clutch...Should the shoes be touching the clutch nut? The way mine are looking ... they will never touch the clutch nut?

THey should? Damn it My LHS are a bunch of morons. They told me that they shouldn't be? Do you know How to fix this? Yes they are on the right way!! Should I be looking for differnent shoes or should I trim them?

BTW The engine I am trying to use is the HPI 12RSS. I cut the shaft and that went well just not the clutch assembly.. I really want to see my ride move not sit on a stand. Please help me out..Does anyone even know what would happen if I did try to start this thing up?

Well I'm pretty sure they should be touching. Since they're "spring loaded" they gotta be somewhere. This is what i'd do. I'd just put the rest of the car together since I suppose the car is complete or near completion. Run it, if the clutch engages when u give it throttle and disengages at idle, then you're fine. Besides, the ntc3 chassis is easy to work on and you can pull the engine in about 2 minutes....it's no savage where you have to take out 20 million screws.

LMAO Kwong.. well the only reason I don't want to start it is I just spent a lot of money and I still need to sell my rtr 3 so I can make up for it ...or spend more after I sell it. My LHS is really a POS, only one ore two people really know what they are talking about. Do you have a NTC3? If so do you know anything about the three shoe set up?

Yep I got a ntc3. Dunno about the 3 shoe setup but i'd imagine it's pretty much the same as the 2 shoe. The shoes should be touching the clutch nut. If it isn't then what is it touching?

Only thing that I can think of is that the clutch shoes are touching each other which means that's the way they're meant to be.

I think you're stressing over something that's put together right that you think is put together wrong.

Maybe so but I really do not want to mess it up untill I know it is ok. The reason I got it was because they claim it gives you more punch at the line. I am surprised that you don't have it.!! want to experiment?

I'll be more than willing to experiment with a 3 shoe, just gimme the money for a 3 shoe flywheel 2 sets of clutchs/springs and i'll be all over it.

LMAO well I will think about it... What do you think of my set up? I am using a HPI 12RSS engine ( CUT THE SHAFT ALREADY ) with all the stock 2 speed gears?

Not a big fan of the engine but i'm sure it's a good fast engine non-the-less. Don't quite understand the point of 3 shoe clutch system to be honest. It will just slow the car down since the engine can't run up quite as fast but i'm sure you can't tell. I've personally have had no problems will the clutch slipping.

With your engine you might want to consider changing the gearing if you're going to be bashing since bashing is more high speed.

Overall though, I think it's a good setup. You should see mine. I've got my weight down to under 1500grams when stock it was at about 1750g or so.

I've got my car setup for drifting right now but i'll probably go back to the normal setup.

You'll love the car once you get everything together. It's really easy to setup and is just an awesome chassis. Extremely easy to work on.

Thanks Kwong I am using it cuz I got the engine for free brand new so I am not going to let it go to waste. what do you mean about the engine not being able to run up as fast? I was told it was speicfically for pumch at the line!
SO do you have picxs of your ride as it is now? when I get them I will post them up and my results. I
I am stilll waiting to get a reply from AE. What I should do is just go to AE Iam close enough. I have driven right by the plant!!!
Anyways get back to meif you have any other suggestions!

Jon, no the shoes do not have to touch the clutch nut, they should surround it and fit inside the clutch bell without touching the bell while sitting still, the bell should spin freely. When the engine rpms come up the shoes expand or open up inside the bell, grabbing the inside of the bell. The point of the three shoes is so that it grabs the bell more evenl, and you have three points of contact from the clutch to the bell.

I suppose what they mean by more punch of the line is that the clutch is less likely to slip. As for not revving as fast it's just like have a heavy fly wheel. It's a little bit more mass which means more load on the engine. If that makes any sense.

Check my gallery for pictures. Just took them 3 minutes ago from this post.

NcNitro..thanks for replying. So are you saying that I can break it in now w/o worrying about the engine or anything getting messed up? Is there anything else I should check ? I am running my NTC3 with a12RSS engine.
THanks again NcNitro you always bring clarity to questions. Hey Kwong don't think I don't appreciate your help. I DO. I will let you know my result ony my ride plus a loo at what it is after my paint job is done! THanks again

Kwong, just checked out your posts Very nice. Why do you run you car with so much toe in at the rear?

It's setup for drift. I found a setup on the internet for electric and used that. And that was how much it called for. My car has ALOT of oversteer. But it's a beatiful thing to see it drift.

If you can post a vid on it I got to see this. I never thought it possible for an ALL WHEEL drive kit to drift.. I am still trying to figure out how to drift my real car that is front wheel drive. Let me know if you get the VID.
