looking for advice on a good competition buggy ? 1/8 scale

I've never been much of a Losi FanBoy ;-) If I were in the market, I would look at them in this order (depending on your budget)

Xray 808, Mugen MBX6, Hot Bodies D8, Losi 8ight, Associated RC8.

This is of course MY opinions. They are all great buggies. The D8 is an AWESOME buggy for a great price too. I had the pleasure of driving one a few weeks back. It was Niiiiice. I personally run an Xray 808 e-conversion and I love it.

Losi 8ight, Mugen MBx6, Xray 808. Forget the Hot Bodies/HPI D8 and the Associated RC8. JMHO...

You would be shocked at how good the Hot Bodies D8 is ;-) I know I was....it didn't even rank on my "take a look at this" scale until a buddy of mine bought one and I drove it. That thing felt like it was on RAILS with a middle of the road GO engine on it. It was seriously impressive...especially for the price point.

The XRay and the Mugen and basically the same darn Buggy...with the exception of XRay's fit and finish being a bit better. Both durable beyond belief and super super fast. The Losi's are good as well....I just hear about more problems with those rigs than anything else raced locally. Some guys have awesome luck (the fast ones who rarely crash), and others have horrible luck (guys like me who bounce off crap 2+ times per lap).

The one thing I hate about Losi is the slop they generate. It's not nicknamed the "Slop Monster" for nothing....and the even crappier part is that slop is needed for it to handle correctly. If you remove the slop with new parts....the rig drives like crap until the slop comes back. lol Something sounds off with that...but hey. LOTS of guys drive Losi. They aren't all bad. The RTR kit is a killer way to get into racing cheap.....

If it was crap, Adam Drake would not be driving them! I am no fan of Losi either but they are a good handling buggy. Any of the above mentioned buggies are capable for racing. Setup and practice make the wins.

Never said the Losi was crap. I just said I wasn't a fanboy ;-) As far as Drake is concerned....he will drive whatever they pay him to drive I'm sure! That boy could make ANY rig fast....plus he has the chance to rebuild it at his leisure. I bet he drives a just about new kit every race or 2.

...and the inverse is true also. I'd still be slow driving Drake's rig ;-)

I still rock an original XB8 with an original NR P5 and it stomps ass....

I'm getting the mugen mbx6 m spec and all i hear about it from my track is good comments abut the durability and the speed, are they a good rig ?? for $570 with no engine or radio they should be.

I watched an MBX-5 stuff directly into a 4x4 post off a 30-35ft triple and not a damn thing happened to it....I did the EXACT same thing off that hit 2 weeks later with my XB8 and it just shut off....after seeing the durability of both makes I'd say get the one you can get parts easiest for....the MBX-5 was tough as nails so I'm sure the 6 should be even better...

I've done the same with both my XRay rigs....nothing broken except my ego ;-) hehe Both Mugen and XRay are TOP notch rigs IMHO.

Losi is nice but 600 is a chunk when the D8 stays right with it and cost 250 less, leaves more money for the engine.
