Being a big military modelling fan, I decided to do a small scale build based on a SCX24 Power Wagon chassis.
Looking around the tubes I found this 1:18 Elite force licensed version that gets great reviews for scale and accuracy.

Wheelbase of the humvee is 184mm and the Power Wagon is 155mm so a stretch was in order.
Installed some Power Wagon driveshafts and links front and rear and relocated the shock mounting positions, now the wheelbase is perfect! Added some 7mm hub extensions and now the track width is correct.
Next was to chop up the humvee. After copious use of a dremel, hacksaw, curse words and a little blood it came together nicely.
Also had to do some surgery on the chassis but surprisingly the body drops on the chassis almost like it was made for it.
Stock oil filled shocks give a good ride height but the body weighs 260 grams meaning this thing is going to be sooo top heavy. I will try to compensate by adding weight down low but the heavier it gets the more strain will be on the motor, drivetrain and servo. We'll cross that bridge when stuff starts to break.
This will definitely not be a comp unit but instead will be as scale as I can get it. The body has good bones with lots of accurate detail, and with all the reference pics on the tubes I should be able to get something that looks decent.
Most were all tan but I found a pic of a camo one that I think will look good with some added detail and weathering.

Lots of work ahead but I am excited about this project. Most of my life I've only done static models, this will be the first RC that I'll do as scale.
Here's some in-progress shots, along with an example of one of my static builds.
