With the onset of digital music, who has taken the time to convert all their CDs to digital format? How large is your collection?
Is your digital collection a mess or have you taken the time to tidy it up? Have you deleted all your duplicate songs? How anal are you?

Just wondering...

Remember its against forum rules to post about ill obtained digital content.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU POST....

At one point I had almost half my CD collection on my 3G ipod, but after I lost it and had it replaced with the nano, I have been lazy to get all my CDs converted to digital. Now the songs that I do have on the nano I enjoy quite a bit, and try to keep the only the songs I like from an album.

I am constantly "losing my music" but I actually had most of them in my external drive so it could be a separate entity so I could listen to them to any of my Personal PC's.... I am sure I have CD's that I have yet to convert over... As far as duplicate songs. I have none. ALl the things I get as far as music wise are legit. I like to have the CD. Expensive but the original is the best for me.

Once I got itunes my music purchases have been about 50/50 CD and online from itunes. Ocassionally during my lunch break I stop at the local used CD store and just browse for 15-30 minutes and grab any stuff I find that is interesting.

After reading this thread I just realized that I still have my music collection from my 3G ipod on my desktop computer. DUH! Time to transfer them to my laptop.

Yeah I had a lot of stuff on my Vaio... memories.

fortunately I have my Externaly drive that houses my music. ITs almost second nature to put them there so I can listen to them later.

I have an external drive that I house my tunes in as I convert them from CD. I'd say I'm about 1/3 through my overall collection, but I've also hooked a turntable and cassette player up as well to convert my wax and cassettes over. Those, obviously, take the most time (especially wax) because after I rip, I run it through a filter to remove the most noticeable scratch and hum noises.

I think I have too many to convert... I joined Columbia House like 5 years ago and I bet I'm at 250 cd's . Some of the cd's I havent even opened yet. Oh and 286 DVD's...god thats a new HPI Baja 5b....damit

I have about 350 CD's that I am still in the middle of converting. I am currently short on time and HD space so I will need another HD in order to finish. I don't have high speed so I don't buy and download MP3's, I just buy the CD and then convert it then store em. Then I use the CD's for playing in my truck.

I have been curiuos on this process. How is the sound quality after the conversion... do you have the white album?

I have just about all my music on my computer. Everything is in order by band, album, and song track. I do have some duplicate songs, but that is to preserve the album order. Most of my music was from original CD's of mine. but thanks to my heroin addict Ex brother in law and Ex wife they are all but a memorie. so far I have 13173 songs. I do still have most of the vinyl though.

I have every Beatles album. I record with a high bit-rate or VBR and the quality is the same as the CD

I’m in the process of consolidating all my files. I have some on the laptop, my desktop, my wife’s desktop, my work computer and now some on the Mac.

I burned all of them to data DVDs and am converting / importing them to iTunes. Damn it takes a long time to do that. It’s processing around 200 songs per hour and I have 4 DVDs each with about 800-900 songs on each one. I know it’s a drop in the bucket compared to some collections but I never knew I had so many.

I’m getting smart about file storage. I partitioned an external HD into 4 parts. Music, Movies, Photos and Data. Hopefully it will help keep everything in order so I can find it all and keep it properly backed up. Up till now I have had all my digital media spread out over 5 computers. I never knew where to look for something when I needed it.

I use applications from Blaze Audio to clean up the recording and I'd say they're very, very close to digital quality. It really depends on the condition of the vinyl album to begin with, but if your vinyl is in good shape, the filters take care of the rest.

Unfortunately, I do not have the White Album on wax, but I believe I have it (get this) on reel-to-reel. I'll check and let you know for sure.

buy an external case.

case.webp

and the biggest hard drive you can get.

drive.webp

and It will be the best investment you would have ever made. IMO

Clint has a great idea. I do that. Unlike Ed I use separate EXt drives instead of partitions. each drive consisting of mo less than 200 gigs for music storage, Video, and documentation

Has anybody had the problem with loosing the file,as in,the file is there and can be found, but it won't play and show's up with a error, cause latelly I've managed to loose a lot of files,I've found them but i can't get them to play wich is killing me cause I've lost my Clash collection.

GN, I've had that happen on occassion. What has sometimes worked for me is to right-click on the file and rename it, like "SONG TITLE.mp3". Sometimes it's just missing the extension. Not sure why it happens, but every now and then, it does occur.

Day by day,I've been loosing files, and they seem to be random,My dad and i are running on seperate accounts.Once he play's a file I'm sol on playing the same file, but he's also magiclly loosing files.Ill give it a try and see what it comes up with.

I am using an external drive.

Once upon a time I got a great deal on 10 Maxtor 250 One touch drives. I have one hooked to each of my computers and use retrospect to back to them up every day. I also have one that backs up all my backups every day as well. I then have an auto FTP that sends them to my web server. Can’t be too careful.

holy crap ed,talk about not being too carefull...

This is so far what I've come up with for a error

" Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct."

And

"Windows Media Player cannot access the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

This file is currently in use. Close the file, and then try again.
You do not have permission to access the server or other location where the file is stored. Verify that you have the appropriate access rights, and then try again.
You do not have permission to access the proxy server. Verify that you have the appropriate access rights, and then try again.
If you are trying to rip (copy) a track from a CD to your hard disk, you might not have permission to rip to the specified hard disk location. Verify that you have the appropriate access rights, and then try again. If the problem persists, try ripping to another folder.
To change the folder where tracks are ripped to
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Rip Music tab.
Click the Change button.
Select another folder in which to store your digital media files, and then click OK.
–or-

Click Make New Folder, enter the name of the new folder, and then click OK.

Error ID = 0xC00D11D2, Condition ID = 0x00000000"

Anybody understand this gibberish cause i can't seem to figure the endding part out.

All my drive's right now are currentlly internal,Using a 250Gb as a back up,300gb and normal, and I'm pretty sure my dad's still using his 60GB for his personal applications, but even with all of them plugged in I'm still wanting to beat my computer.

Is there some special way to have the property file text put,one of the file's that's not playing that should be on my part of the HD is this file C:\My Music\Jet\Get Born That's the location,do i change the location to get it to play properlly?
