How would upgrading a FET help performance? (what does an FET do?)

I have an XMod, just got it for Christmas, and so far I have a Stage 2 Drift Motor and Rechargeable batts. I painted my wheels black and put on some Nismo logos from my 200mm HPI Skyline as well as a sticker for my brother's future race company(full size cars)GRiD Race Technology(Grip, Rally, including Drift).
