I started it today for the first time and from the factory it wouldnt idle, I had to raise the idle for it to run. It is spitting out oil from the exhaust pipe so I know its rich but, it seems to be hot as crap. I dont have my temp guage, I just spit on it but it sizzles soon as it hits the head down near the glow plug.

I have plenty of tuning experience and have no problems with any of my other trucks but it just puzzles me why its so hot...

I pinched the fuel line and it shut off almost instantly so that tells me its lean but its spitting oil out of the exhaust so I dunno.... Ill go richen it up and heat cycle it some more

richening it up seemed to help it out, I think Ill be alright =)

no, just heat cycled it twice on one tank... I wish I had my temp guage so I could get a better idea of what its doing.

I'm about to go out and run another tank through it if the rx pack is charged enough.

well, she runs good but I can't keep her running. every sign I see says its rich but its still hot, I think haha.

Alot of smoke, bogging, no power but at the bottom of the tank when it leans out a bit it starts getting nuts! mabye I'm just worried over nothing =/

Things are going smoothly,
helped out alot. I have always followed RB's book on tuning but this is helpful too.

I feel like a tard now x]

Composite carbs like to leak, specifically where the aluminum end of the carb meeets the composite part. Degrease everything really good, then seal it up. It should tune much better.
Two very experienced guys on Savage-Central get credit for this. They both are top-notch engine-modders whom I trust. It probably is the reason my Axial's ran hot all the time. They explained that the engine would seem to tune normally but would continually run hotter no matter what. Hot and rich? Sounds exactly like my Axial problems. I am almost positive Axial made the 5.9 engine, compare the carbs on them. Axial made the K4.6, so it makes sense that they prob. made the 5.9 as well.
One guy goes by the name Maximus, the other Purenitro. I trust both of them more than myself when it comes to engine troubleshooting.

Well the temps are under control but its rich right now, I called HPI direct and they told me to run a few more tanks through it before I leant it out at all. I will go over to savage central also and see whats going on.

I asked HPI if anyone else had the same problem and they said no so I dont see why I should be any different, well see. Thanks Scrogg

Should I seal it with red RTV sealant?

Any high temp oxygen sensor safe sealant will do. It may take up to a gallon before the engine is reallly ready to be leaned.
Of course HPI will not admit to a problem, they never have. I could never get anything from HPI, I tried quite a few times. They really ticked me off.
A while back I bought a Team Losi Muggy and my friend bought an Aftershock. Everytime we had a problem, Horizon made it right. They sent me about 100 dollars worth of clutch parts, not stock but upgrades when my clutch failed during breakin.
That's customer service.
