in my introduction i stated i was a nitro hater but this is my 3rd nitro in the past month and a half. i traded my rtr associated b44 buggy for this savage. it comes with 2 complete diffs and an extra tranny as well as a bunch of other parts. the only thing wrong is a stripped spur gear and clutch bell but there are new ones that just need installed. worst part is the body is shot, actually its only half of a body. anyways it seems to be i great shape... being new to the savage my question is what should i but as far as parts that wear out quick or break easily? i owned a savage about 10 years ago but only ran 3 tanks of fuel through it. can't wait till weekend to run this beast!

There isn't much that break on them, they are tough as nails. The most I have ever busted was a front bulkhead and slightly cracked an a-arm. Bad driving on my part.

well, this rookie has had his savage for about 2 weeks. i have cartwheeled it 300' ft down a ditch up the other side and against a tree...no damage
wifey n i have head-on collided with one another (her tmaxx) no damage, tmaxx broke lol.
have thrashed 1 body and i atnenea tube due to it being a wheelie beast.
if it can survive me, someone who has been in the hobby 6 weeks (my driving still isnt any better) it can survive anybody! savage truck..A++++ bash truck

i guess I've found a few things ill be replacing. first thing is the guy before cut the cover for the reciever and battery, for what reason i dont know, a new body is a must, and maybe a good cleaning as i replace the spur gear and clutch bell. it also came with a roto start so ill be putting back on as well.

what is a good fitting silverado body? I'm no ford fan, i also wouldnt mind a toyota or dodge body.....i dont like the look of car bodies on trucks either.

Guessing your putting on a plastic spur. If it were me I would just go ahead and get a couple spares. I just went to a steel spur and upgraded bell, eliminates chewing up spurs and seems to be working good for me. Other than that you'll be good to tear some sh$t up.

i put a spur on today and chewed it up in 5 minutes, since i didnt know how to pull the spur off i pulled the engine and found that the pull start is off a 3.3 traxxas so i changed that out and put the roto start on. after putting it back together and going around my yard i hit my garage head on because it was missing the brake disc and it wouldnt even slow down. after another trip to the hobby store to get the brake pads it was up and running again until the steering servo locked up... i pulled the servo and got it working again. now when i steer left or right it keeps centering out then going back to steering to the left or right by its self. it needs a new servo I'm sure...the only body the hobby store had was a stock x4.6 hpi body for 45.00 so still no body....i also realized that there is a bushing in the spur gear that is missing and i think that is the reason why its chewing up spur gears. i found in a parts bag a metal spur gear but not sure if its a good idea. i hate when you get a used rc and the seller dont tell the complete truth. i guess i should have looked it over better but i didnt know enough about the savage to know what to look for.

If your shredding CB's or spur's take a look at your engine plate for cracks.
Any hairline crack will allow the engine to flex and lose mesh.
When installing the engine use washers on the engine mount bolts and that will prevent cracks

That brass bushing that you are missing is most likely your cause for the stripped spur gear. There is no need to switch to a metal spur, when your gear mesh is properly set, a plastic spur should last for many gallons. Plus, it acts as a weak point in the drive line in case of sudden shock.
