Been out of the game for a bit, I have the original tmaxx and was wondering if it's worth the hassle to buy the 2.5trx with the upgrade kit(pipe, linkage, etc) or just put that towards the new max? Suggestions and people who have done the upgrade would be great

Nice engines but I would pay the $20-$30 more and get the 3.3 but you will have to upgrade your drive-train or you will tear it up the 2.5 and 2.5R are now basically the same exept the cooling head on the R cools a little better

also i believe the 3.3 drops right along with the 2.5's

It's not really worth beefing the old Maxx's up with new parts. By the time your done, you'll have spent close to what a new one costs. And you'll still have a short wheelbase. But I think it's worth getting your old Maxx running. You could go with the 2.5 and linkage kit, or try to find an OS .15 that's configured the same way as your current engine and just bolt it in.

Yup, I would assess the condition of the old one, if it's decent, get it running with a 2.5 or 3.3 or even an os 15 or 18. Then buy a new maxx.

+1 I'd find an os .15, gear it 18/72 and run some tires that are around 5" tall. Top speed may only be 25-30mph, but it would be snappy, and the lighter tires would help keep it from blowing through drivetrain and suspension parts.

Thanks for the input, I might just rebuilt the .15 I have in it now and buy the new t-maxx. Has anyone gone from the original to the new maxx? What are some plus and minus's about the new one

Rebuilding the pro .15 is a waste of time in my opinion. It's a serious turd. You'd be money ahead by replacing it with a quality engine, or just saving up for a new rig. The new Maxx is better in every aspect.
