i just got told today that a stuck clutch will keep motor from starting?

whats happening is when i try to start it it will not fire up, if you crack the throttle open just a hair the wheels will turn but not fire the engine up.
got carb set at breakin setting, motor not broke in yet , bought truck w/ new piston/sleeve and he only ran one tank through it, I replaced OWB, New fuel Byron fuel 20% new med glow plug and glow plug ignitor(fully chargered and in working order,it lights up my back-up glow plug)... when turning engine over it does prime the fuel line. truck will not free roll at all w/o turning the tranny........

What you describe sounds a lot like a frozen clutch.

A Frozen clutch can be caused by a number of things. Bearings rusting/gumming solid, melted clutch shoes sticking to the clutch bell, a broken or missing clutch spring allowing the shoes to engage as soon as you try to start the engine or, god forbid, if your using the EZ start and it is wired wrong and you have a frozen clutch it could be trying to run the spur gear backwards which will in turn engage the tranny.

I would go into more detail, but ideally a more detailed description of your problem would be nice and it would certainly help fellow members diagnose more easily what your problem may indeed be.

I.E, is the clutch free to spin, which way does the flywheel turn when you try to start it. (looking from the back, does it rotate clockwise or anti-clockwise), will the truck roll forwards without turning the spur gear, are the brakes engaged when the truck is at a standstill ?

There are a few things there to think about looking over.

thanks for the info, I will look further into it, being as this is my first nitro i am sure i will have more ?'s to come

keep the questions coming byall means. The more you ask, the more you learn.
HOWEVER, is there an answer to what i asked before ??

no answer yet have not had a chance to look at the truck, been working straight out i finally got a day off work hopefully i can sit and go over the truck today...
just got off a 96 hr work week

Well I finally got to go through the revo
I found multi probles
1 found broken clutch spring
2 traxxas handheld starter box had bad pin not letting power to the glow plug
3 bad oneway bearing
4 BIG PROB stretched rod and bad wrist pin..
so far for fix's
new 1way bearing, new clutch kit. new glow plug Ingnitor...
and none of my LHS's have a rod kit, so now its a waiting game til they show up.. all say part is backordered.......so I am now bummed out and race series starts on April 10th:(

Part of the reason for the split rod is because the new piston and sleeve are so tight. The other reason being that it's a used engine. Before you fire it up you should warm it real good ; hair dryer, heat gun, even a heat vent in your home or car. If you have a temp gun or any other way to tell how hot it is then make sure it's getting to about 200 degrees. If you try to break it in too cool you may get the same problem all over again. The heat helps to reduce the tightness in the cylinder, which keeps your rod and crank from working so hard.

I've bought basically ever part that broke on ebay because my LHS is small and doesn't have a huge selection and has to order everything. I decided I would just order them myself instead

Thanks 2revo and raiden, I was thinking about the piston/sleeve issue not only was the engine cold, but the temp outside was around 50% and overcast..
I think some of my problems are saved for a bit, I just might have a engine builder kinda sponsoring me well atleast for the first race of the season
just might be running a OS.18(I think)
I got my fingers crossed it will all come together.. As this season will be my ROOKIE season very first race running nitro's
and thaks guys for all the help my hats off to you guy's
