Ok so I bought my revo used and the guy had a central dif transmittion with only one gear. I wanted a 2nd gear so I bought a brand new trans. and did my best to install it since its my first truck. I finally got all the kinks worked out everywhere else but now the car wont go forward. I tried tightening the nut on the spur gear but it just comes loose, is it that nut or what?

alright I tried that and it went about 20 feet and then stopped again. Do you think something like lock tight might solve this or might it be something else?

If it came loose in 20 feet, more than likely it's stripped, or the plastic "lock" ring is melted. You can try loctite, but let it set up completely. It would be a temporary fix. I recommend getting a new nut. Any hardware store would have it. Just check the exact size in your owner's manual.

ah Rolex, you've got it all wrong. If it wont go forward, he should just turn the body around backwards. With that one mod he would have FOC conversion, rear steer, front mounted engine, etc...

Now theres a man who knows how to make a "Quick Fix" haha

I found a new nut and put it on the way you recommended and it seemed to be working perfectly but then it stopped out of no where after about 1 minute of driving. I'm wondering if maybe my clutch is bad or something else.

Also no i didnt install a reverse servo but i made sure the pin doesn't slide forward.

When it stops driving, does the engine still rev up when you pull the trigger?
If it does, then you should take apart the slipper clutch, since it's been coming loose, and check it against your manual. I can almost say for sure that your problem is in there.
Post back after checking it out.

yeah the engine still revs but nothing grabs. Are you suggesting that I may have put it together incorrectly? That was a suspicion of mine but I wasn't sure.

If it's revving, you need to find out what is causing it not to grab. different slippers have different setups, so check in your manual.
One more point. Is the clutch bell on the front of the engine spinning and turning the slipper clutch?
If it's not, your problem is in there, but we'll get to that after you check out the slipper. Having that nut loosening up is a definite problem.

there is no spring between the nut and gear, does that need to be there? I know that is how you adjust the acceleration but do you need it?

I have school so I wont be able to check this stuff out until tomorrow afternoon, especially since I have to take out the tranny

lol that lil ole spring is exactly the problem. Without that spring, there is nothing to hold tension on the nut, this causing it to just back off and there be no tension on the slipper either.

saweet! I'll let you know if I have another problem after I put one on.

Also is there any damage I could have done while running w/o it???

If the slipper uses friction pads or has them on the spur gear, you need to make sure that they are still in there. It's very posible that you could have lost a few. I don't have my Revo yet, so I don't know what kind of friction pads it has. If you go to the LHS to get that spring, ask them about the friction pads. They're really cheap and it would be good to have a spare set anyway, if it uses pads or pegs.

If by friction pads you mean little dome shaped washers then yeah I have them. What order do I put the washers, spring, and nut in?

The pads are usually a fiber type of material with a sticky back. If it has friction pegs, you'll see 12 holes in the spur. Each peg looks kind of like a lighter flint.

Here ya go. This tells you everything you need to know.

ah, I see. It uses two washers that are behind the spur gear for the spring mechanism. I bet the problem is those washers are either turned the wrong way, or they are bent and lost their shape. On the diagram on the bottom of the page, there is a blow up insert of the spring washers in a circle. It looks like a pair of symbols from a drum set. See what I'm talking about??
