Well I won an .18TM off ebay yesterday for the Revo. They say it's got 7 tanks through it so I'm guessing it's broken is? I really didn't think I would get it and just laid down a bid for it. Now I got one on the way and need to know what all I have to do to install it? I plan to use the stock Revo set up like EZ start and exhaust.

Also, I'm pretty sure it doesn't come with a CB gear etc. I've never installed one of these and need to know how you install one? I would like to just buy a new one so I can keep the old 2.5r intact to drop it in later or use it in the Tmaxx. Does anyone know where I can buy a CB set up for the Revo that would be slightly better than stock? I mean of I have to buy one/install one I may as well buy something decent if the price is right. Also, anyone know what a good CB gearing would be for this motor, I'm still using the stock spur gear right now.

Thanks
Ray

Ray, I am not familiar with the OS .18 so I can't advise on the EZ start and such, but I do know the stock Traxxas CB's are pretty good overall and they offer several different gear tooth counts. What is best for the .18 powered Revo I don't know, but I use either a 15/38 or a 16/40 (most) with the RB .23.

The .18 will run significantly better than the stock 2.5r, but it's not going to sprout wings like it would with the TZ. I would highly advise against the EZstart just because of my bad experience with them. Pull starts have always been good to me.

If you're running at the track, I would gear pretty low.

She's just a back yard basher..although I wouldn't mind some gearing etc to pop some wheelies ever once and a while ;)

Thanks Revo, now when I buy "x" CB gear, will it come with everything I need to install it on the motor. This motor just has a shaft stocking out I believe and no shoes etc.

Thanks
Ray

Ray you can buy different size clutchbells and spur gears, genuine Traxxas parts. I have a gearing chart I'll send you when I get on later, it's on my laptop. Also the NIB TM comes with the sneazy start backplate on it so I would say the one you are getting may have it on there. I'm a starter box kinda guy so the sneazy start or yank me chain are the first things I take off!

Ray, the backplate on the OS will work with the EZ start, just make sure you grab the OWB from the 2.5 to use on the OS.

As for CB's, stockers will work fine and you'll need to pull the flywheel off the 2.5 and put it on the OS. I'd suggest putting a new collet on there as well, just to make sure you get a tight fit. I do know that if you use a Traxxas 14 tooth CB, you'll need to get different bearings (I think 5x11) to use on it. I know the Traxxas site tells you and the parts listing in the manual tells you as well.

The only question I have is that the TM is designed as a direct drop for the T-Maxx. There's no difference between the TM and TZ except that manifold that comes with it. The manifold for the TM breaks right and down to accomodate the T-Maxx muffler. I don't think the stock Traxxas manifold bolts up to the OS, so you may need a new manifold to make it work.

Hopefully this helps! Good luck!

Monkey there's a TM for the Revo and a TM for the Maxx. Mostly has to do with the manifold. One of the biggest differences with the TM and TZ is the crank. I'm pretty sure you have to cut the crank on the TZ to use it (no biggie) but also there is no nub for sneazy start or "yank all day".

Ah, you're right Jet! Got myself all bass-ackwards on that one! My apologies, Ray! Hopefully you didn't stroke out before Jet corrected me!

Thanks for catching it, Jet! My mistake.

LMAO, Frank. So, I take it no PS for you!

Ray, I have a spare 14 inteh garage and the bearings to go with it. I'll double check the size of the bearings. Also, they do not come with the shims and all, so just swap in the stuff from the 2.5 My RB was the same way. BTW, if you get the new BS flywheel from Traxxas you can put it on now and when you go to BS if ever you are already set up. I did that and still use the Sleazy Start for bashing. My club race allows starting systems as long as they are not used in a race or QT.

Thats cool MW.

Anyways, I'm thinking of buying everything I need to install the motor right down to the OWB. This way I will have the 2.5 on stand by or have it ready to install in something else. I'm just looking for a complete list of stuff I need and trying to figure out what gearing is best.

Ray

ps Whats a Sleazy start? I'm guessing it's an Ez start but wanted to double check ;)

OK, just checked. For the 14 tooth Traxxas CB you get two fiber washers and a c-clip. The bearings it needs are 6x10x4, sold seperately by Traxxas.

Rancher, did you get that from their web site? I looked in my manual and it says 5x10x4 bearings (part number 4609). I ask only because I want to make sure I get the right bearings when I get the 14T CB.

Sorry Ray, I refer to the Eazy Start as every but that. I've seen more OWB ruin a guys day then I'd care to shake a stick at.

I show the same bearings as Monkey in the exploded view and parts list I have.

RR, first time I got blisters from yank and yank and yank and the damn thing not startin' I said screw it. I woulda spent a grand on a starter box! LOL

Hey np Jet :hi:

So what is a stock tooth CB on a Revo?

Also will a 14T if not stock work right with the stock spur or do I need to swap in something else right away?

As for the PS, I could see it getting very nerve racking after a while. I mean I could do it a few times or so but not for bashing. I have to use something like Sleazy start or roto start. It could be me being lazy in my old age also but I'm to lazy to think about it right now lol

Thanks people
Ray

When effort does not work, money will! LOL!

Ray, maybe I have the wrong bearings myself. It is my spare set up in case I blow a CB in a race. I'll double check. Either way, the 14T CB takes a different set of bearings than does the stock or the other optional Traxxas CB.

Also, I have been told they all work with the stock spur, you just need to adjust the engine mounts a bit.

Ok I'm needing to order some parts and I'm still not sure what I need. I pretty much got the whole Sleazy set up with OWB ready to go. Just need to figure the front part of the motor out and what goes where.

Now I'm guessing the fly wheel goes on first, does this screwed or pressed on?

Then I'm guessing you pop the clutch and spring on after that? Also do I need an aftermarket fly wheel if I install a 3 clutch set up or will a stock flywheel work?

After the clutch is there some kind of spacer that goes on before the CB?

I'm guessing the CB pops on after the clutch system and then is there some sort of E clip that holds the CB on or does it just float on the shaft?

Sorry about the newbe questions, I've done some related work but nothing in dept.

Thanks
Ray

Collet.webp
, then the flywheel goes on, then a nut. Tighten that down real good to hold the flywheel to the crankshaft.

Then I'm guessing you pop the clutch and spring on after that? Yup!Also do I need an aftermarket fly wheel if I install a 3 clutch set up or will a stock flywheel work? Depends on the flywheel. If the flywheel you have has three pins, you can put a three-shoe clutch on. If it only has two, you will need a new flywheel.

After the clutch is there some kind of spacer that goes on before the CB? Can't recall, but there may be a teflon washer that goes on there.

I'm guessing the CB pops on after the clutch system and then is there some sort of E clip that holds the CB on or does it just float on the shaft? I have another teflon washer, then an E-clip. Some use a screw on the ends as well (some engines, that is) but there has to be something to keep the bell on the shaft.

Hey thanks MW :hi:

I guess I'll need a collet since I don't have an extra one and then look into a new flywheel or a complete clutch system that comes with one. Just trying to keep the 2.5r ready to drop in so if and when I need to work on the OS.18 I got something to drive with. It just sucks being down lol Either that or try installing it into the Maxx.

Thanks again
Ray
