any of you use them? I'm in need of a new mouse cuz i have to pick mine up and roll the ball around for a while to get it in the right place but I've been looking at the wireless ones on ebay for around 20 bucks, just wondered what yall thought of them.

i use a logitech wireless mouse and keyboard. love em, would never go wired again.

I haven't used a ball mouse in several years. You don't need to go wireless to use an optical mouse, but I've gotten rid of the keyboard and mouse wires. NEVER a glitch.

whats the optical mouse? does it have the ball on top that u spin with your fingers???

hmm ok, i'll have to go look for one. thanks guys

If you get a wireless mouse with the ball, you'll have the same problem, eventually. For a quick fix, take the bottom cover off the mouse and drop the ball out, then clean the dust off the rollers inside. It's the dust on the tracking wheels that make the mouse unstable.

i can sit in bed and type & click all night long, its just like a wireless 360 controller.

edit: i wouldnt expect much for $7.99

oh ok. easy peezy then i guess lol.

Where it points doesn't matter. Mine has never lost it's signal, and it's on a pullout below the desk, and the USB receiver is on top, behind the comp.
If you're going to upgrade, why not get one with extra perks like a back thumb button. I have the MS Laser 6000 and it has the standard top two buttons, a scroll wheel that also rocks to either side to scroll sideways, and 2 thumb buttons. One for the back arrow, and another that opens a magnifying glass on the screen.
I've ALWAYS had a back button, and it drives me nuts to be on another comp that hasn't got it.

Anyway, it's the dust that messes with the mouse, and an optical mouse, whether wired or wireless doesn't pick it up.

yeah, I've cleaned this one before with dust off stuff but i think its time for a cooler one anyways lol plus the cord always catches my keyboard and pisses me off. i just bought a logitech, that one i linked too was just an example and it was in hong kong, i never buy out of the u.s if i can help it.

You should have just gone to wally world, I'm glad you bought a logitech. Optical is like using a laser to sense where the mouse is, there's no moving parts. I didn't know people were still using the ones with the ball on the bottom hahaha, you're in for a real treat my friend. You just upgraded from a dilapidated pinto that was constantly breaking down to a new Caddy.

People quit using the mouse with the ball around the time that we gave up type writers. Also, you can stop sending a fax everytime you send a memo, and upgrade to email, it's great what the new technology has available.

hey lol i just bought this computer new in feb so everything on it was good enuff for me till now. hopefully the mouse is all i will upgrade lol.

I have only seen 1 drawback to the optical mice, on certain surfaces they don't work. We have a dinning room table that is jet black in color and the mouse will not work without a piece of paper under it. I'm assuming it has something to do with the color black not reflecting light back to the optical lens or something equally as technical that I can't explain properly. :hehe:

This is my absolute favorite computer mice I think I have ever used

It's a Microsoft 3000
Great signal, one AA battery that last a long time, feels great in either hand, durable and it's simple.
I can see the usefulness of the multi button mice, but I just can't use them very well, it just feels weird.

Click on start, then control panel. Choose the "mouse" option, and you can adjust the speed, pointer, double click speed, etc...
