Hi all,

I'm new to the Savage, as I've just bought a X 4.6 RTR.

My Question is...Do I need to remove the windows from the Truck body to cool the engine, or is there enough air getting up and around the engine from underneath? I'm fitting the engine protection bar BTW.

Regards

Nige

It will be just fine without cutting the windows out, but in order to use the engine protector you will have to cut on the back window.

I cut a hole in my windshield. And sometimes take out a side window? Mine overheat if I dont cut the holes?

You will probably be fine not cutting the window, but I always cut a hole to be on the safe side.

I have been fine without having to cut the front window out for the Savage. If you are running an SUV type lid than you may have to. I rand the stock lid and HummVee lid. The HV lid was still ok in the air flow but I let it sit high to allow a cage.

cutting windows

hey there all....what's the best way to cut out these windows, to make a clean and neat cut and finish? thanks!

I use a 1" hole saw to do the job. They come in other diameters and attach to a drill. The one I have cost about $5 at Home Depot.

After cutting out the hole, I go back with an Xacto blade and clean up the edges.

I use an Olfa circle cutter. It makes a nice clean cut that does not require any clean-up. It works really well on standard thickness bodies by proline etc. The challenge is on the extra thick bodies put out by JConcepts. It takes awhile to get through those with it.

cool, thanks for the tip. oh, sweet ride by the way diesle...what is it?

Thanks mcvern. It's a Hot Bodies LSP with a BPP (Bomb Proof Products) brushless chassis conversion. You can see more details of the truck and the build thread in the member projects forum.

If you want to get a bit fancy, trace the oval cap from a stick of deodorant...
I then buzz a hole through with a stone bit on the dremel and use curved lexan scissors to remove the rest...

Personally, I prefer to ventilate my lid making a screen-like appearance with several smaller holes spaced out in the windscreen to keep more strength in the lid for those almost landed it flips. On my old Savage, I had one lid venilated and one not. Never really noticed a difference and kept the non-ventilated lid for the times I would go construction yard swamping to keep the mud out.
