I need a stronger steering servo for my .21
I took out the stock servo & replaced with a Futaba s9304, but still doesn't seem like its going to be strong enough.
Any suggestions??
Also if I wanted to put a set of Rx batteries do I have to make any mods or will a pack fit were the you place the AA's?

645

hi mate i have a sav 21 and have just replaced my stock steering servo. i brought a hitec 645. its not the best but it has metal gears and it is a high torque. seems good to me. i would recommened upgrading your reciever batts with a 6cell hump pack

Thanx for the input. Will the Hites servo turn the S21 tires while its sitting still. The new servo I installed doesn't seem to be any better than the stock, when it comes to turning the tires while the truck is not moving.
As far as installing the 6 cell hump pack where do you place it?

opps forgot to ask if the Hitec servo will work with the stock S21 radio?

The 645MG will turn the tires sitting.

The 5 cell hump pack sits in the same place at the 4 cell batter holder sits.

I do believe the servo I linked will work with the stock gear. I am using a JR XS3. I still have the stock gear so I can double check to make sure it will work.

Tower Hobbies sells a 645MG that has the Futaba J connector.

I have this servo, with the OFNA steering mod in my Savage and it turns the wheels on carpet when the truck is sitting still. I made my own receiver pack out of 4 2100 mah AA cells which yield 4.8 volts. I have not actually timed how long the pack lasts but it gets me through a full night of racing including practice 2 five min qualifiers and a 20 min main.

I run a HiTec digital version of the 645 (mine is the HS-5645MG Digital Hi Torque) and it definitely turns the wheel at a standstill. In fact, mine will turn the IMEX JumboMaxx tires I am running with little to no difficulty.

In the past I have said it is fine to run with alkaline batteries when using digital servos, recent experience has forced me to throw a caveat into that line of thought. If using larger than normal tires a rechargeable battery is a must. Need that 6 volts solid for as long as you can get it when using huge tires.

My hitec 645mg wouldn't turn the tires while sitting still but my airtronics 94358z certainly will but then again it's got 160oz inchs of tq on 4.8v too.
