will a 3.3 tmaxx tranny work in a 2.5???

whats up i have an old school tmaxx thats my baby. i recently put a .18r engine on it and a steel flywheel and it keeps eating my clutches and somewhere along the way i lost second gear. i was wondering if anyone knew if the new tranny would fit in the old truck and would it be bennificial for performance?? or if anyone had a solution to my current problem.
