Wierd Idea... Hmm!!!

I had a sweet idea, and wasn't sure about doing it until I at least asked about it. Now some of the electrics have plastic chassis. I can get a 3mm slab of high grade plastic, and it wieghs next to nothing. It would be cheap for me to get so... Here's the idea. Plastic chassis? Of course, it would take some time to get it right and with the right dremel skills I could do it. It would just be.. well... flat. I could easily install some stabilizer aluminum bars, which would still kill for wieght reduction. Then with a few.. quite a few modifications. Turn my RC10GT into an all out racing machine. 54 tooth spur gear Think it it would work?

I wouldnt recommend it ... The plasitic will have so much flex and tourqe I don't think it would last long.
Electrics can use plastic becuase they are so much lighter and the don't deal with the same stresses as nitro trucks do. Just the stress from teh motor mounts and things of that nature I think it would be a work in futility for the time you would spend just my .02 X

If your chasis is flexing than your suspension is not doing its job or can't.

On a side note what about Kevlar. I have a Kevlar clutch in my Saab turbo and it kicks but. Kevlar is one of the strogest things out there. Maybe I will look into seeing if it is possible to buy slabs of the stuff. Maybe I will start a hop-up company called BulletProof and make everything out of Kevlar..........maybe not.

what the weight of platci to aluminum?
not some crappy aluminum some high stength lightweight stuff?
can't be but a couple ounces. stick to aluminum

Well, the sheets I can get are 3lb. And that's before they're cut... Basically it's 12 feet x 12 feet x "almost" 3mm thick. I figure a chassis would only wiegh a couple ounces. My aluminum chassis wieghs 12 almost 13. Every wieght reduction could help. I'm just figuring if I should put it racing or not.

Try it! The worse thing that could happen is you'll have to put all your stuff back on the old chassis (provided you dont break anything trying it out ). No matter what happens you'll have fun wrenching.
