I bought a traxxas nitrosport car... followed the instructions to run the engine in and it was working fine.... i then proceeded to follow the tuning directions and that was the end of it... i can get it running beautifully but when the brake is applied the throttle linkage also moves and shuts the engine off.... it completely closes the throttle. the low speed mixture screw is then adjusted to stop the throttle closing and it wont even start.... please help... its killing me not being able to play with my new toy!!! haha

anybody who knows what this could be and how to fix it i love u!!!!!
cheers Joely!

Your idle set screw needs to be adjusted and you may need to recenter your servo.

Take the air filter off and, while looking into the carb, hit the brakes. Chances are the barrel is closing completely off. Easiest thing to do is, adjust the idle set screw so that the barrel stays about 1mm open when you hit the brakes.

i will go try that now and see if the hunk-a-junk runs...... thanks

Yup, sounds like the idle stop. Remember, that's different than the low-speed needle.

And don't mind Monkey Wrench. He's been decompensating all day. He was mumbling something about his precious Rosebud a few minutes ago.

u guys rule!!

That worked and it now runs and the brake works well..... however it is now revving its ass off at idle even when the idle screw is at its lowest and the throttle trim on the remote is also at its lowest..... is this something to with the linkage? i know nothing about servo adjustment etc.......

Monkey wrench i reckon i would damn well kiss u if u werent so far away, hahaha his has been frustrating me for days!

any other tips on how to get it running beautifully..... also how important is after run procedure.... i was told to either use proper after run oil or WD40..... are other water disperant sprays the same??? or is that just an aussie thing.... i have no idea

I would first reset the high-speed and low-speed needles back to the recommended break-in settings. If you've been really working the low-speed needle, it may be out of whack. And if the LSN is too lean, you'll get a really high idle once the idle is set right. Usually, when I have a lot of troubles tuning, I just reset everything and start over.

reset everything?? where should everything be set?? its a traxxas .15 engine if that means anything....

Take a look in that manual you volunteered to scan for another mate on this site, and you may find the presets for each needle...I almost guarantee it.

adjust the brakes so that u can lower the idle speed using the remote control without pressing the brakes thats wut i did and it worked

Adjusting the idle should not have anything to do with brakes or the trim on the radio. Granted your radio & linkage must be set up right but to properly adjust the idle you need to adjust the idle screw on the carb as others have mentioned.
