New to everything R/C. Got bored with my brushless rustler and built a T maxx 3.3. I got it broke in great, had no problems. I still really have no problems with the truck running. But, my maxx will not lift the front tires off the ground. Everything is stock but the 62T spur gear. I have fuel spraying out exhaust, and when I am done I usually have about a tablespoon of fuel in my pipe. LHS says I need to lean it out. Leaning it out even an 1/8 of a turn causes it to cut out at WOT. How can I be so close to being too lean and still be collecting fuel in my pipe. I am quite clueless because I can run the truck for a couple hours with no problems other than it doesn't have the power to pull the front wheels off the ground. Thanks in advance.

If its not raining in the morning I plan to get it out and try some more. Would a new motor need sealed? Motor was bought new, all i did was instal ez start and carb. This is something I may need to look into. I usually try to figure things out on my own but everytime I google a question it seems I always end up here so I thought I might as well join. Thanks for advice. I will try leaning out the LSN a little bit and see if I can quit spraying fuel and get this sucker on 2 wheels. A friend that knows about as much as I do said my clutch could be slipping and keeping me from getting the wheels off th ground. I will get it tuned first and then worry about everything else.

you can't tune an engine that hasnt been sealed. if its leaking air you will never get it right. My brothers brand new 3.3 engine went from 400 degrees at 6 turns out to 250 at 3 turns out and still had to lean the low end...

I have been out of this hobby for 10 years and had never heard of sealing an engine but i am a firm believer now. It may not need sealed now but it soon will and hopefully youll get it sealed before you toast it from overheating :)

I managed to get some more power out of it today. I still think there is some more in there. Its pulling the front wheels now, it will pull them easier at half throttle then WOT so I still need to work on it. Half of my rear center shaft decided it didnt want to be attached the diff anymore and disappeared. Should be another nice day tomorrow. I ended up richening the HSN and leaning the LSN. I honestly hate to mess with it anymore since this is the best its ran yet but I know there is more potential. I just need to be patient and pay attention to my adjustments so I dont stray too far and forget where my current settings are in case I lose power. Thanks for the advice.

You can tune an engine that has not been sealed, however you cannot tune an engine with an air leak ;-)

I would have agreed with you 10 years ago but after chasing a tune for as long as i did, you can't tune an engine that hasnt been sealed :)

if you want to waste time you can try it tho...lol

I only seal an engine if there are no O-Rings inside it. My Alpha Plus engines (4 of them) and my Werks B5 engines (2 of them) are not sealed...and they tune perfectly therefore proving your theory incorrect ;-)

If the engine has no O-Rings....then yes I will seal it up every single time though...mainly to prevent an air leak....but it's not 100% needed to seal an engine to get a proper tune. Some without O-Rings will seal just fine as well...the real question is how long will they stay leak-free for without adding some sealant ;-)

When in doubt...seal it. It takes no time at all...and prevents issues for sure.

I am very pleased with how things went today. Except the rear diff is popping now, they havent been upgraded yet, they are several years old. Thanks for the help.
