I am in need of one very soon.

If you are using one please tell me what model and who made it.

I will need at least 100gb, not more than $150, and one touch backup.
Also, it is possible that I use the same drive for 2 desktop and a laptop?

MAXTOR Baby. All the way.

I have three diffrent computers here in my home, and ALL of them have been refited with either a master or slave HD made by Maxtor. CompUSA has some on sale (by sale I mean, not a "sale" but they have them) anywhere from 40 Gig, 30 bucks to 280 gig, 256 bucks. I use an external USB Maxtor 280 gig from my work computer. I will tell you, my work requiers a LOT of information storge and even more access to it. this thing is full and I use it everyday several times a day. I also have an external 80 gig maxtor I use for music and DVD storage on my laptop. Shop around, cause I don't have parts numbers or anything that specific, but I do know CompUSA and Office Depot both have externall one-touch HD's with great warranties.

Jeep, I use a Maxtor One Touch 100 GB external drive and I have it networked through my PC for my wife to back-up files to. I got it from Staples for $149.98. I can back-up my C drive with one button press and have used it to back-up my work laptop as well.

Truthfully, couldn't be happier with it! Set-up in a jiffy and works great!

Hope this helps!

May I ask how is the one touch function works?

I know it come with a software, then am I able to select which files/directories I want to backup with the one touch function? I am also concerned about the one touch feature since I am going to use it on multilple desktop and laptop. Let's say if I have 2 same name folder (files in folder may not be the same) on different desktop, will it overwrite the backup files?

One touch is just that, you simply push a button on the unit and it begins the backup process. depedning on several factors it can take a long or short time, but still only reqiers one touch.

Yeah, there's SW that comes with it that will walk you through setting it up and the like. As for overwriting, the only way you can do that is by overwriting a file from the same PC. Each PC has a name, so if you back-up My Pictures from a PC named "Work" and My Pictures from a PC named "Home", it will know the difference and create separate directories on the external HD. Clear as mud yet? It always asks if you want to override a file before it does so, so there is a check and balance involved.

I also know you can format the external HD so that it looks like there are two separate drives. I did that with my internal HD, so I have C & D as internal drives (even though they are they same thing, physically) then my Maxtor is G.

I have the Maxtor one touch on every computer I have as well as one on the network (6 total) and love them.

It comes with retrospect backup software that works well. It has a great function where you can press a button and it will copy the contents of any specified folders. For the money they are great.

I just keep all my files on a separate NAS......I guess that should be backed up every now and then on CD but that would require working at home...eeeewww
