I have a t-maxx 2.5, just bought it a couple of weeks ago. I have run 2 gallons thru the truck so far. I am not new to RC Cars (used to race about 10-15 years ago, original kyosho ultima), but I am new to nitro. I've gotta say, the 2.5 is a great running motor. Once you figure out how to tune it, it is AWESOME. I struggled at first learning the proper tuning techniques. (HSN first, temp gun, then LSN, then idle). It has been solid.
Anyway, here are my questions:

1) I would like to replace traxxas radio & receiver & servos with a futaba, airtronics, JR, or something else? I need a radio that will control multiple models (I am going to buy more nitro cars), and would like an LCD screen. Also, want to keep cost around $200 or so. What should I buy & why?

2) I don't have a fuel filter on my line from tank to engine. Should I get one, will it restrict flow? And What brand does everyone recommend?

rsgunther,

For question number 1, I would recommend getting the JR XS3 Radio. The JR XS3 radio is a synthesized 3-channel FM radio with that will store up to 6 R/C Models and its VERY cost effective at $229.00. HERE's a link for more info regarding the JR XS3.

As for question number 2, Fuel filter is a MUST have hands down. Though just about everyone recommends something different from the next guy. However I use the Racers Edge fuel filter on HPI Savage and used to on my T-Maxx when I had it, and never ran into any problems with this filter.

I'd also recommend checking out THIS future hop-ups you should be interested in for your T-Maxx.

Enjoy!

Woodie, thanks for the recommendations, but I should have been clearer. I would really like a 75mhz radio due to conflicts with other 27mhz radios. What are your thoughts on 75MHZ radios?

woodie

Gotcha, didn't realize they made both 27mhz & 75mhz models of that JR radio.

What about the futaba 3PDF? Any thoughts?

I heard thats a good radio but the XS3 is fully synthesized, so you don't have to worry about anybody on your frequency.

Make sure you go and actually hold and play with the radios before u buy. I almost got the JR, but once i went and checked it out, I hated it. I ended up getting the Hitec Lynx 3D FM. It is also a synth radio and was much more to my liking. I use a byron originals fuel filter. works great, is small, and costs less than 3.00

Below is a link to the hitec radio.
