Just got my parts for doing the 4 spider mod - Yee Haw! When ordering, I figured a "set" was enough for 1 diff...Looks like my neice will get a set for a late x-mas gift. She just spent 3 weeks of evenings building the kit and got done a few nights ago. She will be absolutely "thrilled" to tear it all the way back down to change them out! It'll give her something to do for another month or so until we get some decent running weather. Anyways...I'm drawing a blank on which of the 20some greases out in the shop to use on the ring and pinion gears. I don't think it really gives specs in the manual. I'm almost leaning toward a white moly grease but in the back of my head thinking it may be a little thin. Any suggestions... Bash On!!!

i would not use grease use diff oil it comes in loads of weights depening on what you do bashing racing etc

Use silicone diff oil.

I use 3k in the front and 1k in the rear which has worked out fine so far.

I guess I was a little vague...I used 1000wt in the rear and 3000wt in the front. What I'm looking for is the outer ring gear on the diff. and the pinion gear on the front drive shaft. (The gears exposed after filling with oil and screwing together.) I'm not sure of RPM's on these gears but I would hate to use something too light and have it all fling off. Thanks guys.

You should be fine. The lube will get picked up and distributed as it dips into the lube at the bottom of the case.

And the winner is...Sweetdeisel! Thanks man. Do you suppose that aero-car speed lube is some type of silicone or graphite compound? Maybe some KY - a little dab'l do ya... Thanks bro

Ahh, those gears. :D
I've been using some white hobby grease with teflon on those gears for a long time. I don't see much wear yet. While your in there, make sure the pinion gear mates well with the ring gear. After a while the plastic bulks and diff cases wear and the mesh isn't so good so some poeple are shimming the diff to take up the slack.

I have no idea what type of compound it is but it is supposed to be sling proof and last a very long time compared to conventional grease.

I grabbed some Traxxas (ewww...I hate to say that word) silicone grease tonight at the lhs so I could get things back together for the time being. It really bugs me having it torn down on the workbench. I love to just sit and look at it...how many of you do that? Maybe it's turning into an obsession.... I'm waiting on some extended TVP's from SKIP on the forum here, so when I get those I'll post some picks! I also just picked up a new body tonight and it will be my first stab at painting. I'm gonna try the liquid mask with rattle cans. Nothing fancy but something to hone my skills. Thanks Guys

I use some 1:1 High-Temp Lithium Wheel Bearing Grease. You can scoop up a bucket for about $3 from any autoparts store. It will definitely last you a long time and it works just fine.
