Recently HPI announced that there would be a new "Heavy Duty" air filter (In other words a Motor Saver rename). The model number from HPI is 72438 Does anyone know where to purchase these?

I have checked Tower Hobbies, Ace Hobbies, and Stormer - none have them.

Tower is about the only palce I have found so far
HPI High Performance Air Cleaner 15mm 15.69 Tower in stock limited supply

Looking at that pic of the filter it has a prefilter. Now I would be all over that. But no prefilter has been the reason I dont use Motorsavers on my other stuff. No prefilter and that mesh clogs with dirt very quickly in the dusty conditions i drive in. All motorsavers I have seen are like the part on the right only no prefiler.

If this really is a motor saver I will look at them again if I can find something like this with a prefilter i may change my mind X

Well I will be damned I never noticed the 1/8th scale Motor Savers use a prefilter sure enough that looks like the same damn thing for 4 more bucks my bad. X

X,

Your a good man. I looked on Tower Hobbies and even looked under filters in the engine section and it wasn't listed or i just over looked it. Thanks again!

As far as the filter, I have been told by a few people that all this 'new' HPI filter is, is just a renamed Motor Saver filter. In fact it actually looks a lot like a motor saver.

I now have it on order and will have a lil tech tip on how to make a new cold air intake :D

only thing I did notice is that Motor Saver makes two filters one with a 15mm and one with I guess a 16mm neck that and I am wondering if on the neck for the Savage version if its the same bend and length. That would be interesting to find out that way people wanting a 1/8 motor saver could just buy the HPI version ...X

Has anyone noticed that Motor Saver DRASTICALLY cut down on the number of filters they now make?!?!?! As well as stock, hard to find the past couple of months. They are just starting to make them for the manufacturers directly. Sweet in my opinion.

The HPI filter has been a bear for me to find too! My LHS has had mine on order for a couple of weeks. I guess Ill order mine from tower too, or, just pick up the double element GS filter tomorrow.

Thanks for the info X !!!!

just got me a k&n filter from ebay..the only thing that sux with it is that it lets so much more air in i have to change my needle settings cuz its so damn fast...hehe check out my gallery for pics

I'm totally against the K&N Filter - I'd rather buy something thats "made" for R/C then something that just happens to fit...just my 2cents.

I totally agree with WoodiE, the K&N was never intended for use on rc vehicles. K&N will tell you this themselves. I would rather go with a filter designed specifically for rc.

i can understand how you guys feel..but a new engine only cost $100 or so ..so i figure ill make em run as fast as i can

Well again the debate is still out on wether or not they are good or bad. Until someone shows me some info on what micron a standard R/C filter blocks I am not gonna dog them...

Here is a previous link about this https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2203&highlight=K&N

Ok just to make this a little better I was sitting at my pc though hey I will just drop old motor saver a call and see what they say their filters filter down to what size micron they protect. So I call the long distance number. This is after I looked at their joke of a website. I get some lady that sounds like she should be selling magic wheels I ask her whats the specs for their filter to what size micron of paritcle will it filter.

Simply stated she said thats not something we will give to the public I mean she didn't know what the hell I was talking about so I said ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is common stuff that air filter manufactures provide then she said its made to filter dirt and dust. No poop.. I knew that anyway after talking to this dumb ass I will never drop another penny on a motor saver filter. Its all Losi or Ofnas from now on...X

I designed a new product to attach to your air filter.which will stop it from falling off,Adrenalinerc.ca

Nitro Boogie,

The alum. filter extension can be found here though no prices are listed there, and the online shops he has listed that carries his products, either dont have them listed, or the site is down. :\

However if your looking for a cheap yet very effective mod that will move your filter up and away from the engine, plus make it VERY hard to fall off. Then I would suggest taking a look at This page, which can also be found in the TechInfo page.

Thanks Woodie.I kinda like the aluminum one so ill probably go to my local tech campus here and see if one of those aspiring machinist can make one :spidey:  :smart:
