I'm running Alias tires on 2.8 Twin Spoke wheels (stock setup) and after a day on loose dirt and gravel it seems I've managed to take a chunk out of one of the rear rims. Also, and this may be more of concern, there is a hairline crack in one of the front rims.

My question is, how bad is it to run on these rims? I'm pretty sure that I can score a new set for around $40.00. Should I do that now, or just say screw it and rock 'em a little longer?

*Damage on the rear rim looks to be cosmetic only.

Both rims could be problematic. The cracked rim is the worst of the two IMO. It could fail and cause the truck to be uncontrollable. It's probably cheap insurance to replace them.

hamz- that's pretty much what I was thinking. I'll head up to the local hobby shop and see if they have a complete set.

While I'm waiting for my new rims to arrive, I decided to "work" on the old ones. First thing I did was purely cosmetic. The chrome finish was just kind of bothering me, so I had my buddy (expert spray-painter) put on a coupla coats of flat black. I don't know how well it'll stand up, but the wheels look much better. Heck, even the crunched rim looks better.

As for the crack inside the front rim, I applied super-glue to it. The rim firmed up nicely, so I'm betting it's good to for the immediate future.

*note - I did see that the front wheels contain bearing, but we sprayed 'em anyway. As of right now, doesn't seem like the wheels are have in trouble spinning freely.
