RC Driving Style
Does anybody put thread lock on their wheel nuts? The T-Maxx came with these nice little flanged lock nuts. I give them a comfortable amount of torque and find that they manage to loosen themselves after a period of running. I lost one of the damn things yesterday...
 
I found some at Home Depot that have a plastic or gell like material on the end that seems to keep them in place very well. I used them on my buggy. I was tired of going around corners and comming up -1 wheel.

When that happens forget about finding the nut.
 
i run the hpi purple aluminum nuts they do good (havent lost a wheel at 80mph yet) :banana: :banana: :sniper:
 
Thanks you guys... I actually spent a couple minutes looking for the nut in the grass... don't know what I was thinkin.
 
I put a small dab of loctite on my wheel nuts. I haven't had any problems with it so far.
 
Nylok nuts work great.
Traxxas stock replacement nuts work great on the Maxx and any hardware store will have them as well.

You should be careful using lock tight on your wheel nuts. The last place you want to get lock-tight is in your bearings.
 
locking nuts do not need locktite as the locktite has no effect on the plastic. If your wheels are falling off time for some new self locking nuts.
 
That's true locking nuts don't need loctite, but I lost my nuts. I had to use a temp solution by using loctite on regular nuts. I should of been more clear on original post.
 
This won't keep your wheel(s) from coming off, but it will save you from looking for the nut. Put a small piece of tape over it, covering it and part of the wheel. Ductape works good, real sticky and it sort of matches the silver stock wheels on the Maxx. On off-set aftermarket rims where the nut is deep in the wheel, the kind where you almost need a deepwell socket to get to it, I cut a small piece of surgical tubing, fold it in half and stick it in the hole. Again, this won't keep the nut from backing off, but it will keep it with the wheel.
 
I think I'm afraid of stripping the threads on the new CVD's. I've been holding my tongue just the right way to make sure I don't overtorque 'em. I've already stripped a variety of other components. For now I'll be carefully sparing with the blue loctite.

I'm pretty resourceful and have engineered some creative solutions in the past. If I come up with a good wheel cover solution for the stock Maxx wheel I'll be sure and post it.
