Hey everyone, I am curious of what the difference is between the picco .26max and the picco .26 red dot? I have a .26 max in one of my revos and am thinking of getting another for one of my other revo. Any pros and cons of one over the other? Any and all info welcome. Thanks

The max is a 5 port the red dot is a 7 port, red dot has the red putty in the crank and I believe the timing is changed. It's said to be a 10% power difference.

What are ports and what purpose do they serve..??
I'm guessin the ports are the slots in the sleeve..??

......And the sleeve! Like I said the 'max' is a 5 port, red dot is a 7 port.

Your right! it does say the JL is a 7 port and the max is a 5 port. However, I could not find a different part # for the red dot Piston and sleeve anywhere! Even called tower hobbies, checked four other dealer web sites and the sleeve in the red dot's parts list is OFN51442 and it is the same for the max.

Thanks for the reply guys, so the red dot has a little more power but thats about it? I relly like the max i have right now, even though after break-in it was a nightmare to tune but now that i got it really holds a tune well and has gobs of power on demand. I think I am gonna get the red dot to see the difference between the 2. thanks again guys.

No harm no foul man. That's weird about the part #'s, must be a typo.

When the piston comes down it forces the air fuel mix that was sucked into crankcase to be pushed up along the sides of the sleeve and into the cylinder, through the intake ports. It is also pushing the spent air/fuel mix out the exhaust ports. I'm kind of guessing on this part of it but more ports means better breathing and distibution of the mix inside the cylinder. It's also got something to do with scavenging, which I'm still unclear on, but someone will chime in. It's all about the biggest possible bang in a given space.

All this time I was right! I called Ofna and the guy told me that the ONLY difference in the two(max and red dot) was the CRANKSHAFT! He also said "they are both 5 port sleeves and use the exact same piston and sleeve". then said "if you read that one is a 5 port and the other is a 7 port on a web site, they are wrong!" That's the only typo! :D

I don't have time to call and ask, but it's easy to see why people would be confused.....It wasn't just any website, it was Ofna's! That's not the ONLY difference either, the timing is changed.

It only took about 3 min of my day to call and find out! But, your right! Their web site does say that! The timing is different because of the crankshaft. The timing is changed by the position of the intake port on the crankshaft compared to the counterweight on the crankshaft. It is also lightened and worked for better flow and more RPM. Maybe I'll call them back about the "7 ports" and tell them their web site has a typo.

Don't get me wrong guys, I still think the Red Dot is worth the extra $20 for sure! I might even get one next time. It's just that I have seen so many people on the forums asking what the diff. was in these two engines, and I just wanted to find out the truth! I think we accomplished that today! ;D
