Looking into getting a Savage, but I'm having trouble Deciphering the differences of the .25 & SS. A little help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The savage SS is a kit that comes stock with upgrades on it already. Here are the upgrades over the savage 25 rtr
-Heavy duty chromed dog bones (drive shafts).
-Extra gearing options.
-Aluminum tuned pipe.
-Firm purple shock springs.
-Adjustable upper suspension arms.
-Manual Pull Start
-Fuel tank comes with primer / Front pick up
-Clear body that you can paint

One downgrade of the 25 rtr to the SS kit
-25 RTR comes with 3 shoe clutch, SS kit comes with 2 shoe

Hope this helps

the SS is also a kit which means you get to build it and the .25 is already built when you get it. you probably already know this but just makin sure.

The RTR is a better value. They are essentially the same truck but the SS is for builders who want to include hop-ups as they build. Unless you want to stay "stock" buy the RTR. First, it comes with electronics (servos, radio) although you will probably upgrade anyway but at least you can sell these or keep as back ups. Secondly, the body is already pre-painted which you can also sell or keep as basher body. Finally, it's already assembled. You will still probably take it back apart to see how everything comes together and loctite needed screws.

Other advantages: 3 shoe clutch, primerless tank, pre-glued tires, black springs (same as purple), updated dog bones (chrome isn't needed) and electronics.

Disadvantages: plastic pipe, no body choices (same color) adjustable a-arms (no big deal)

Conclusion: GET RTR!

I was under the impression that the SS Heavy Duty Silver Dogbones were better than the S25 Updated Standard Dogbones? I also thought the Purple SS springs were considered an upgrade over the S25 Black springs?

haha rossb is right, the heavy duty silver dogbones are better than the "updated" ones. killahbz, you are a :n00bie:! lol, just messin. you did make some good points, the three shoe clutch is definitely better than the 2 shoe clutch, and yes, most people do prefer the primerless fuel tank due to air leaks. But I am also going to have to disagree with you that adjustable a-arms definitely ARE a big deal. Heck, I adjust my T-Maxx arms all the time. I adjust them as follows: Maximum clearance for rock climbing, hard bashing, etc. Lower profile stance for racing, normal bashing around yard and stuff like that
CONCLUSION: any one you chose you will be happy with

X hit it right on the head. You can't go wrong w/ either one. Even if you get the RTR or SS, you will eventually find yourself tearing it apart to do upgrades. It's all part of the fun. I would go w/ the RTR unless you are simply looking for a kit. They both have their strengths over each other.

Later....

Dude I just got the RTR. Just getting it broke in. I love it!:ahh: :ahh: :ahh: So far anyway. Brakes aren't very good. Planning on doing that upgrade first. Won't wheelie, but it will carry the front wheels a few feet. My kid flipped it on its back twice. (on a little slope)

Don't get me wrong, I want to build a kit. But you can have fun while you are gettin to know the truck with the RTR. You will be upgrading all the time. Look at the first post, that will be the upgrades you will want to start with. Check out this link. It will answer a lot of ????.

I decided on the SS because I wanted to build it, I wanted to paint it, and I wanted to use a multi-model computerized FM radio with advanced features.

The bottom line is that both trucks are pretty much the same thing.
