Whats the best place to take a temp reading?

I have the .Radio Shack Infered Temp Thermomiter I was just wodering what is the best place to take a reading, on the engine? I've been aiming it right down the head at the glow plug, is this right?

Yup, thats it just set it right on top.

The center is the best,
I like to take a readings from around the plug as well. I have found the temp to differ at times.

Agreed strait down ontop of the plug area. hold it as close to head as possible and take temp a few times like click click click that way you make sure you are getting a good reading...X
