Hey guys I’m thinking about getting a new set of shocks. The stock ones are ok, but I want something a little stronger for jumping and such. I have seen the HB threaded shocks for pretty cheap even though my LHS wants over $100 for a set. I have seen lots of people with them and some say they like them and other say they are awful. I seem to remember a post here a while back concerning them so I did a search for "HB threaded shocks" and didn't find anything so sorry if this has already been discussed. I recall something about the bottoms leaking because they are poorly designed or something to that effect. Is this true? If so what are some good shocks for under $100? I would like them to be under $100 but I’m willing to go higher if they are something that are exceptionally well designed.

As far as I am concerned, there isn't too much wrong with the shocks. The issues that have been presented about them include:
1. Poorly designed cylinder bottom that is prone to leaking. I have not seen this in the shocks I have.
2. Upper Spring retainer works its way off the shock cylinder. I have not seen this either.
3. Weak shock shafts prone to bending or breakage on impacts. I have not witnessed this firsthand, but have read about it quite a bit. I will tell you this, this is not an uncommon problem with shocks of this size or length.
4. Weak stock springs. This I can vouch for, BUT it is a common problem with most shock sets out there.

There are a number of solutions, and $100 is or should be enough to resolve it.

I prefer T-Maxx style or sized shocks and modified my Savage to take that size shock. This required purchasing New Era models upper a-arms that accept the lower shock end, but the money is well spent. On top of that I went with a set of Big Bore buggy shocks from a Mugen Seiki MBX4. I run four shocks total, and these things rock. No problems with big air what-so-ever.

If you intend to not get the threaded shocks, I'll defer to those who have gone the Savage shock route. If you intend to get the threaded shocks, I may be able to give you a decent deal on a set. Since I modified my Savage, I have a near new set sitting in my field kit collecting dust. PM me for details.

has anybody tried the integy MSR4 piggybacks for the savage yet?? i had them on my supermaxx and i loved them. just wondering if they were as good on the savage?
