what to use ????

just curious as to what you all use for lubing your tranny's
i used hpi diff grease,very sticky stuff
should i be using regular grease like wheel bearing grease
that stuff in the little tubes is spendy for all the more ya get

You should never use any greese in the trany IMO!
if you are worried about it use a dry lube.but never greese

When running metal to metal, you need some kind of grease... But, if it is all plastic, you shouldnt have to worry about it. What kind of dry lube would you suggest? Brand name or product ? I havent gotten any answers to that question so far...

There are a few different types of Dry lube, such as graphite. Usually comes in a tube, with a tiny spout. I use graphite on the pivot ball seats on my TMaxx... Works great, and doesn't attract dust..

OMG ,,i never even give that a thought i have a new tube of graphite in my box i use for my sliders

i will have to tear it apart tomorow and clean it all up and luber with graphite,

that would also make sence when it got into the 2 speed then it would bind up the movement and make everything slower.just like the forward and reverse gears also..makes perfect sence now ,

what should i use to clean it up ,just basic soap and water???
that nitro spray is way to spendy ,and i do not like the white residue it leaves ,,

If you take it apart, soap and water will be fine. Aside form messing with your shift points, grease will also attract dirt and that will chew up your gears.

i had a complete set of gears that were new so i replaced everything and the lubed everything with graphite
very very smooth now
now i have to finish installing the servo and put it all back together

uhhhh...the last time I lubbed the tranny on my maxx, the 2 speed locked up and wouldnt shift into 2nd.

yep....never use a viscous material in the tranny when it has 2-speeds...the lube will jam the clutch for the 2nd speed and keep it from engaging....just like vincemaxx said happened to him.....if set mine up where there are no metal to metal gears then i don't use any lube...works fine as long as you keep dirt out....

then that make sense with my 2 speed also ,having a hard time getting it to shift and isnt consistant when it does if it even does,
i guess i need ot tear it out and reclean it with a good spray of some kind

Graphite is not viscous.

That slime on top of the meat in Spam is viscous.

I used a delicate amount of lithium grease on my gearbox when I reassembled it after a FOC and it's been great.
