I just bought a used maxx and know nothing about them since I have only had a revo. It already has traxxas aluminum bulks and I just ordered RPM true track, RPM front arms, Motorsaver filter, and a THS racing pipe. I will be getting the rc solutions cage for it in a few weeks but are there any other known weak points on a tmaxx that need to be upgraded to make it a super tough basher?

Sell it and get a Savage if you want a super tough basher. Other than that it sounds like it has all the upgrades necessary to be an ok basher.

Not really. The driveshafts are pretty tough as is, aluminum bulks are deff a good idea. Id say the only thing i can think of is aluminum skid plates. A buddy of mine has the same truck and he is SUPER rough on it. When it was a 2.5 truck it was broke everytime he wrecked, i mean ran it. Now that i converted it all over, it is pretty dam tuff. And he was going through skid plates every week. They were breaking between the chassi braces and the bulkead, so it was out of comission. So Skids and if u wanted to spend a little more money u could pick the Tekno Axle carriers for the front at least if ur gonna buy the tru-trac witch in my opinion is a great upgrade also!

Looking at a almost new XL on craigslist for $300 but just not sure I want to get into the savage game. I have so many spares for my revos and know them inside and out I just dont really want to learn a whole new platform right now.

If the guy still has it when I get some more money next month then I will prolly buy it and just shelf it until I get some time to play with it. $300 sounds like a pretty decent deal for a like new XL.

That is a hell of a deal for Savage XL! The savage platform is very tough and extremely easy to work on. Unlike the Revo or the T-MAXX the Savage makes things like serviceing the diffs very easy. It can be done without even taking the wheels off. 6 screws, pop the cover off, and pull it out. Need to change a spur gear? Same thing, 6 screws and the whole top of the trans can be removed with the spur. Not to mention 3 speed metal gear transmission all metal dog bones 3 shoe aluminum clutch dual disc brakes and oh yeah factory big block power. I used to run nothing but Traxxas and I believed in them whole heartedly. Once i got my hands on my first used Savage I got rid of all my Traxxas stuff and haven't regreted it one bit. I run a Savage XL now that I bought new over a year ago the on;y major upgrade i have made is the engine and big bore shocks. Other than that It's bone stock and it will take just about anything I can throw at it. I have literally tried to break it and it just keeps on begging for more.

your maxx will be fine ! i see people posting stuff like" i ran into a curb a 30 mph, or hit a tree doing 40" i dont care what brand your running, if you hit anything at that speed Yes your going to break stuff !!!! LOL i beat the crap out of my maxx, i break some stuff,... shocks, and a arms, and just toasted a tranny, but for the most part, a Tmaxx is a good basher, you just have to use some common sense in your driving !!!! two guys i bash with have savages and they break stuff just as often as i do !

I may unload the revo and try and grab the XL ... I have already spent over 1k on RC this month so if I spend another 300 my wife will have a fit. If the guy still has it next month I will try and grab it.

All I know is my broken parts bin has a LOT less in it since i switched to a Savage than it was with my T-MAXX 3.3 plus my Savage is a lot faster than my T-MAXX was.

Shes spends atleast 1k a month on shoes and clothes but I go and spend that one time on RC and she has a fit!!

Just wait until I get into the 1/5th game and then she is really gonna throw a fit ;)

i feel ya ! been married for 22 years, and i still get that Look, when i buy RC stuff !

He He my neighbor has the same problem. She spends all kinds of money on clothes and shoes hair and nails all that crap but god forbid he need something for his nitro. I got rid of my old lady because she griped too much about what I spent my money on. Nitros are easy to fix and maintain. Old ladys not so much.:D

Well just sent the guy an offer to trade one of my shotguns for his XL. The XL looks almost new in the pics and even if it needs a new piston sleeve I will still come out pretty good.

Sweet! You won't regret it and you're wife can't gripe cause you didn't spend any money. The Savage is an awesome truck. Once you get into it and see how easy it comes apart and goes together plus just how tough it is in stock form you will love it. Granted it doesn't handle quite as well as a Revo but for sheer strength and durability you can't beat it. If you have any questions or problems I can sure give you some help on it.
