I recently bought a T-Maxx project and have a few questions.

Question 1, I was wondering how to tell which version it was originally (.15, 2.5,3.3 etc)? The parts I've needed fit all but they always ask when I need help finding the part at my LHS.

Question 2, What the heck is an "opti-drive module"? This truck doen't have one so I am guessing it doen't need one.

Question 3, It has a 2 speed trans with reverse. The reverse servo wires are cut off and I cannot move the lever. Is there a nuetral position? The reason I ask is because I can turn the spur gear freely in either direction but there is no output to the diffs. I am guessing I am going to have to pull it apart.

Here's some pics of it. Thanks in advance for any help. :)

It appears to be a 2.5 with a sirio .18 mill in it.

The optidrive comes in the 3.3 and Revo's. It is a module that prevents the tranny from being thrown into reverse while it's till going forward.

It is best to do a tear down and make sure all components are working on a used rig.

The trans will "freewheel" at low rpms; that is just the nature of the maxx trans, since it has a clutch on the lowest shaft (that's how it can switch to reverse). However, if you install the forward only conversion, that goes away (along with reverse).

The way you tell the .15 from the others is, the .15 came with a rotary carb engine, the other two are slides. You can tell this by the pivot post for the throttle link, mounted by the exhaust pipe. If it has the pivot post (as yours does), then it's not a .15 maxx.

I would agree with robmob; it's gotta be the 2.5 Maxx. It's got the widened suspension at the very least.

So, it's either not had a FOC and the reverse is just disabled by the cut wires or the other end is it has been FOC and the trans is messed up, correct?
I guess I'm gonna pop it apart and check it before firing it up since the motor is tight and probably needs to go through a break-in.

Is a Sirio .18 considerd an upgrade from a 2.5?

Thanks again for the info, now if the guy would just send me the rest of the parts to finish it.........

The Sirio .18 is definitely and upgrade over the 2.5. It comes with a standard plug head button and a turbo plug head button. The 2.5 mill is only a .15.

If it had the forward only conversion did to it, it would not have the forward/reverse shift linkages installed; there would be a screw in that hole.

It almost looks like an old Pro .15 version, with a new engine and upgraded suspension. There really isn't an easy way to tell here. Its either the old one, or the 2.5. Either way, it doesn't matter, because it now has a Sirio. That engine rocks.

Providing it has a nice exhaust to help breath with that motor saver air filter, it should be a blast. I have mine in an Rs4, so I can't comment on heavy-truck power, but it scoots that thing around like an F1 car.

noob here, can you explain standard plug head button and turbo plug head button?

Maybe in a private message or something as to not get off topic here.

looks like you got a sweet truck!
