i have a new 2.5R in my maxx and it works farley well when it is chilli outside but havnt had the chance to test in the summer yet. got rid of the old 2.5 for the new 2.5R and WOW wut a difference in power.

They are the same engines except for the newer blue cooling head (which is machined instead of the regular cast).

2.5 and 2.5R are not identical. Besides the cooling head difference the porting is oh so slightly different on the 2.5R.

The difference between the two is minimal and not enough to talk about. My stock 2.5 tmax will smoke the revos 2.5R. Cooling may be a different story though. My 2 cents. :2cents:

well like i have said b4 the new 2.5R is not the same as the old one they have totally different porting and a different stroke if you dont believe me ask traxxas and they will tell you the same????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are comparing a stock 2.5 T-Maxx to a stock 2.5r Revo, you might be right, but look at the weight difference between the two rigs. Revo is noticably heavier. Tuning is also a factor. Unless both are tuned perfectly, a never to be reached scenario on any given day, then the comparison is simply unfair. If you really want to add credibility to your statement, race your T-Maxx against a T-Maxx with a 2.5r.

Otherwise, there are design difference between the two which is to net the 2.5r more bottom end.

I have the hardcore blue aluminum head, and after i installed it, my truck ran through a whole tank of gas without cutting off. (this past summer)

Yeah, with the stock head, it overheats fast. And, with the stock gas tank, it doesn't run the same all the way through the entire tank. The first 1/3 is too rich, then the rest is too lean... i switched to an ofna buggy tank with a kit through New Era, and it works fine with my big block.

I never thought of trying a different tank.. well i read that slayden uses a rustler tank??
I am not sure.

The current 2.5 and 2.5r are IDENTICAL, except for the cooling head. Traxxas made the running change a few months ago.

So, if you want a 2.5r in your T-Maxx/S-Maxx/Rustler/Jato, just replace the head with the machines PowerTune head. (If your engine was made in the last few months, that is.)

As everyone has said, the 2.5r and the 2.5 are different. The porting and stroke are different. And the head, obviously... I wasn't a believer untill i saw the specs.. they are two slightly different engines.

well i have raced against a stock 2.5 tmaxx and i blew it away from start to finish and the bad thing is the t maxx i beat was owned by a hobby shop owner that i know and it was tuned pefect for the weather outside and mine was pretty good also but he didnt have a chance at ALL
