I just got a new savage 25 rtr. I just finished the break in and it runs great.

I'm really happy with the truck, however, I'd like to know what to look out for in the future.

I had a savy 21 to start out with that, well, truly I shouldn't have gotton rid of. Despite the trouble out of the first one I had I decided to go for another one given beasons pursuasion, (driving over me every chance he'd get)

On a more serious note, now that I'm more experienced in the hobby as a whole, I'd just like to know from some savage experts, what to look out for.

Weak points, maintenance, ect....

I'd post pics, but it doesn't look any different from the HPI photo.

I'm not really an expert but the only things that have broken on my hpi savage 25 is the gas tank holder thing where you clip it and the plastic throttle thing (i dont know what its called but it is what makes your throttle/brake thing move in and out of the carberator). like i said I'm not an expert but its the only thing that has happened and i bash it perty hard. oh yea and one of my shocks broke and one of the dogbones slid off the ball thing. the rims crack pretty easy too. thats it. you get all of these extra with the savage but the shock and the dogbone issue was really easy to fix (it just slid off). thats it. hope i was of help...
and when i first got it i didnt put the spider 4 mod in right away. and i ripped up one of my diffs. but you get the spider 4 mod with the 25. They havent messed up once (my new spider 4 mod diffs). I Was Meaning To Put the spider 4 mod n e ways. so its all good.

Use thread lock on all metal to metal contacts this will save you the trouble later. also dont lube the outdrives/yokes the thinges that the dog bones go in to. I dont know what they are called. you can use dry graphite lube. it frees it up and no squeaks.

One other thing. on my savy the brakes suck ass, I would highly recomend the dual brake kit from hpi. it is great.

once again rb lol.. locktite everything that is metal ( motor plate support, motor mount, motor, steering hinges, use blue locktite) keep your wheels very snug and locktite those to.. upgrade the steering servo and t/b servo to a 645 and add a hump pack and you will have more brakes then you can handle.. (youve seen mine endo a few times) the factory tires are good all around tires but the foams suck, get stiffer (hehe) foams.. the ofna t/b linkage mod i have seems to work great.. if your looking to do something small that will make it more driveable i would suggest that.. or the ofna steering mod.. oh and the rotostart like to eat owb's for lunch so you gotta watch that.. the reason is even if its kinda hydrolocked and hard to turn the roto will still turn it.. and it bangs that one way rally hard.. mine is starting to slip but i got another somewere...

Beason...

I just found out my Rotostart backplate wasn't loctite'd from the factory and it broke an ear off of the rear engine plate. I've got another plate, and screws coming from HPI under warranty, but while I'm right there is there any way to check the owb? I've only got about 11 tanks through it. How do you know or "feel" it slipping?

Oh, and instead of removing the engine for owb replacement I just removed the rear suspension sub assembly. About six screws and I don't have to mess with gear mesh concerns...

The only thing I have broke on my savage was my Right Upright, a arm, bent a shock, and bent a shock pin. I've had it since Dec/January and drove it since the day I got it at least 3-4 times a week. Sometimes more. (Dec-March are VERY cold in Mn. too). Its one hell of a tough truck. But Tarant said, the breaking is kinda weak. I havnt done anything yet to mine, (I've learned to drive that way) but it is a factor. other than that really, its tough as nails, and I know youll be VERY happy with it.

Broke the RF hub slamming into a parked car. Broke rule #1, lost line of sight...

For braking get a better servo, or upgrade to the HPI dual disc brake setup...

I'm planning on getting a hitec 645 for steering with in the next month cuz i hardly have any steering lol

a buddy drove my truck for 8 sec once ...right into a pile of boards, broke a steering knuckle...thats it...very tough truck :boxing:

I've toasted both diffs.. (didnt do the 4 spider mod ) bent a shock and dogbone and broke a bumper support.. none of which stopped the truck from still moving.. and we put out trucks through HELL i need one of those white tube cages that guy on the videos has but i dont think he is selling them yet.. i landed top down from about 8 feet up and 20 feet out.. bent the hell out of the factory "roll cage" but i straitend it back up..

Man that thing runs strong. That sucker would wheelie on demand!!! Are you sure that you didnt get a S-28 with that kit? I was surprised how quick it was.

its geared low.. he got the 15 and 52 i think .. mine has the 18 and 47 and will still pull a wheelie at times..
