I do some pretty serious jumps with my 2.5 tmaxx (big air, backflips) and i've really suprised myself with how well i can control and land this truck, but occasionally i get some massive air and it's just too hard of a landing for the stock shock shafts to handle. i've only bent a few but i can't stand having to stop and check my shocks after a landing to make sure they are alright. i did put a set of rc raven dual rate springs on there and they helped a little bit but don't even think about running spacers on them. it makes it so rigid that the slightest bump or bobble throws your truck off course or into a rollover. i'm ready to upgrade and i don't want to skimp. what should i get.

p.s. SkyMaxx..i just read your piece on putting fuel tubing over the shock shaft to prevent bottoming out, i'll try this out before shelling out for all new shocks, but do you think it will really work that good? how much would running different weight oil help too? i'm just running the stock oil still (30wt???). what wt. of oil should i use?:help:

If you still have the stock shocks, big air is big trouble. You will blow out the shock caps (if you haven't already). There as many good ideas for shocks as there are hardcore bashers on this site (and believe me that is quite a lot).

Whatever shocks you decide on, get all aluminum construction (cylinder and caps). Get good strong springs (I recommend Trinity Blue or Black...others will suggest differently). For silicone/oil weight...no more than 60W, but I have heard of those who run as high as 80W with little to no problem.

I personally run AE shocks on my T-Maxx. I run a mixture of Trinity Bue and Black springs. I run 60W silicone all around. AND I have been using the bump stops (the fuel tubing) mod since, Hunter (longtime member of this site) told me about them a great while ago. Guess what, I rarely bottom out my trucks even on the biggest of airs.

I agree 100% with Skymaxx and well said bro. I'm running 70wt all around with Big Bores with the stock red springs with great sucess. A little to heavy I'm realizing for BIG ass jumps.

I ordered some of the new Inetegy Piggbacks (purple). I also ordered a full set of RacerX shocks from UE. I'll be running like 55 in the rear and 35 in the front. I'll get back to you guys on how I feel they perform and in comparison with the BIg Bores that I'm currently running and happy with. I'm definitley gonna have to try that shock mod bro. Thanks

Jray - Skymaxx says "All alluminum" construction. Yep, and don't go out and get expensive alluminum shocks caps for yoru plastic shocks. All your doing is increasing the chance of more damage to the shock body and the rest of the truck.

Peace

Skymaxx,

what's the difference in the Trinity blue's and black's? the level of stiffness? the price? also if you could let me know where i could order some of these springs, online, as my lhs has up an
un-assed the area! now everything i have to buy will be online. any websites for ordering these and other items related to shocks would be greatly appreciated. i think in the end i'm going to go with the piggyback shocks (don't know what brand is best, do you?) a guy at hobbytown told me piggybacks where nothing but a big headache. also a sight to find the integey piggy's would be great too.

thanks again,

I'm running the RC Raven "Adjustable" Rate springs over a set of Int. P-Backs. I also run the bump stops that Sky mentioned above.

I also run a set of GS 1/8th shocks at times. I haven't purchase a second set so for now I have them on my Storm. The 1/8th shocks are the ticket to landing big jumps. They are a lot beefier than the 1/10th shocks. I run with 4 but for jumping I would back them up with 4 1/10th shocks using the "Adjustable" rate RC raven springs. They wont get in your way while driving due to the nature of the springs but will offer the extra stiffness when landing.

You will notice I say Adjustable Rate, I did an in depth test on the springs and came up with the fact that they were inappropriately named. They are an amazing spring once you understand how they work and how to set them up.

Here is a pic of the P-Backs before I instaled the RC-Ravens
